Wow! You guys were not kidding. Desperation in Death #55 was rough to read, but very good!!! I liked the cameos and I have been noticing much more references to old cases lately, which I also appreciate. Mavis sure showed a strong and unyielding side, and although it surprised me, it looked good on her!!!
Just finished Encore in Death #56 ... A more traditional mystery, but enjoyable still. She really writes great guest characters. The ending was a bit too convenient, but I am willing to ride with it:)

I would be shocked if the rival b!t@# is the culprit, but I hope karma finds a way to smack her in the mouth for being such an awful person - I mean, personal feelings aside, someone just died; show some respect.

One more - Payback in Death (#57). Then Random in Death is scheduled to be released on January 23, 2024 (which would make the buddy read date: Monday, January 29, 2024)
Oh dang... we really are reaching the end... >.< I am definitely going to miss these... kinda happy Robb is so fast a writer.

So fast... Nora Roberts releases 5-10 books a year, once you add in her romances/etc... and she says she doesn't use ghostwriters...
James Patterson has so many co-authors on all his ongoing series...

If it's happening, it'll be in it's own thread... I don't know when it's starting, or the concrete plans...
My focus has been on finishing In Death, and the people most interested in it haven't piped up much, except to say they want to do it, when I made a general comment a month or 2 ago about it, since it had been 6-8 months since the idea was originally floated...
I assume, if it's gonna start, it'll probably be after New Year?

I am one of those people who would like to participate when it's set up. I am entirely new to the series. Are they as bingeable as In Death? Can it be handled the same as this thread?
And I would agree with starting in the new year.
Okay. I’ll watch for it. I’m on book 13 or something so I will just be hanging out for a while. And they are super bingeable.
Yes, we should definitely set up a thread like this one. They are bingeable and not too deep, so it would be comments like the ones here. I am totally about starting it at the beginning of the year, same format...
Thread made, added to the spreadsheet, January to July 2024: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Starts on January 1st to maintain the Mondays schedule of In Death...

Thanks! Yay!!

I have about two more chapters to go in Encore in Death (#56), but I won't be able to finish it before work.
I'm not shocked at the suspect. I was suspicious for a little bit, but it wasn't a strong feeling, and with the whole infiltration thing, I let it go. I can't even say I should have "trusted my instincts" because it wasn't that intense.
I'm going to listen to as much as I can now and hopefully be able to finish during lunch.
Closing in on the end, now, and it reminds me of numerous previous mysteries, which seems inevitable at this point... (view spoiler)
Since the rest of my planned December reads will most likely be shared with my daughter (the jury is out on Vorkosigan, which we won't be able to start until next week), I'm beginning Payback in Death (#57) today. I can't believe I'll have read 50 of these novels in a single year!!
I had my doubts at the very beginning, but I've loved the experience so far!
The fact that the first chapter of this one has had me in happy tears, however, makes me concerned about who will be getting payback for what!?! (view spoiler)
Don't worry about it, Monika! Just take your time:)Have I told you guys, how happy all the moms sharing the books with their kids are making me?:)))
Ditto-ing Choko--that's so wonderful to be able to share books with your kids or parents! Also dittoing--take your time and Enjoy, Monika!
Definitely some vertigo on realizing just how long this series is... and how we've been burning through it...
Final week guys... the thread closes a week from Sunday ;)
jk... it IS the end of the road for the weekly readers, tho...

@Monika - Like the others said, take your time. Enjoy the journey! @Choko - Thanks. I feel so fortunate that one of my 20-year-olds likes hanging out with me enough for us to read together! LOL
@Nirkatze - We really have binged the bejesus out of this series, haven't we? LOL
@TI - Ha Ha! LOL

As the story stands so far, the payback hits family-adjacent, but my gut is telling me there might be more. I'm hoping my gut is wrong.

I just finished this morning. All caught up, and now, we have to wait seven weeks for the next one. I'll miss this in the meantime.
Grats on finishing the Marathon, Nyssa!I feel like we should have race-rankings or something. And coming cross the finish line, after 385 days of reading.... Nyssa!

LOL! Thank you! :D
Hmmm finished Innocent in death... And I'm not sure which I should read next.. Creation or Eternity?
Monika wrote: "Hmmm finished Innocent in death... And I'm not sure which I should read next... Creation or Eternity?"Creation in Death and then Eternity in Death

Enjoy!! :)
I finished Payback in Death #57 ... For some reason it kind of felt flat for me... Maybe it's just me, but it was a bit anticlimactic for the last published book so far ... Still, I hate it that we have to wait now for the new books... I will really miss the reliability of a good book we had with this series...
Emily, Faithless in Death was my favorite of the last ones. Definitely a five star for me:)Iain, right? I am not sure what, but the spark was missing in Payback in Death...
It felt almost like going through the motions...
We've seen so many dirty cop stories, and (view spoiler) stories, at this point...
The biggest blip on my radar was the fear that (view spoiler)

I'm sorry you guys didn't enjoy it that much. I understand what you mean about “going through the motions”; it didn't bring me down because of the start of the book.
