Wow! You guys were not kidding. Desperation in Death #55 was rough to read, but very good!!! I liked the cameos and I have been noticing much more references to old cases lately, which I also appreciate. Mavis sure showed a strong and unyielding side, and although it surprised me, it looked good on her!!!

Just finished Encore in Death #56 ... A more traditional mystery, but enjoyable still. She really writes great guest characters. The ending was a bit too convenient, but I am willing to ride with it:)

I started this one today. I'm about four chapters in (give or take).
I would be shocked if the rival b!t@# is the culprit, but I hope karma finds a way to smack her in the mouth for being such an awful person - I mean, personal feelings aside, someone just died; show some respect.

So fast... Nora Roberts releases 5-10 books a year, once you add in her romances/etc... and she says she doesn't use ghostwriters...

My focus has been on finishing In Death, and the people most interested in it haven't piped up much, except to say they want to do it, when I made a general comment a month or 2 ago about it, since it had been 6-8 months since the idea was originally floated...

I assume, if it's gonna start, it'll probably be after New Year?

I am one of those people who would like to participate when it's set up. I am entirely new to the series. Are they as bingeable as In Death? Can it be handled the same as this thread?

I have about two more chapters to go in Encore in Death (#56), but I won't be able to finish it before work.

I'm not shocked at the suspect. I was suspicious for a little bit, but it wasn't a strong feeling, and with the whole infiltration thing, I let it go. I can't even say I should have "trusted my instincts" because it wasn't that intense.

I'm going to listen to as much as I can now and hopefully be able to finish during lunch.

Since the rest of my planned December reads will most likely be shared with my daughter (the jury is out on Vorkosigan, which we won't be able to start until next week), I'm beginning Payback in Death (#57) today.

I can't believe I'll have read 50 of these novels in a single year!!
I had my doubts at the very beginning, but I've loved the experience so far!

The fact that the first chapter of this one has had me in happy tears, however, makes me concerned about who will be getting payback for what!?! (view spoiler)[If anyone hurts a single hair on Eve & Roarke's family, I will be pissed!! (hide spoiler)]

I finished Payback in Death #57 ... For some reason it kind of felt flat for me... Maybe it's just me, but it was a bit anticlimactic for the last published book so far ... Still, I hate it that we have to wait now for the new books... I will really miss the reliability of a good book we had with this series...

It felt almost like going through the motions...

We've seen so many dirty cop stories, and (view spoiler)[young person getting revenge (hide spoiler)] stories, at this point...

The biggest blip on my radar was the fear that (view spoiler)[the retiring IAB detective's love interest would be caught in the crossfire, as a storytelling cliche... before we learned how the killings were targeted... (hide spoiler)]

I have to say I really enjoyed Abandoned # 54 as well~ (view spoiler)[ the set up with an abandoned kid and the amnesia mom is super tragic... And also a little soap opera-y lol
But I enjoyed all the character moments as usual... The story construction with Mary Kate trapped in the basement vs the mom's new memories worked well here too..
I like also how Roarke is giving up on Jamie being anything other than a cop lol And maybe a little love interest set up between Nadine's apprentice and Jamie? I don't know about that age gap though... He's probably 19? I think she's 15 or 16?

Oh man, but for some reason Eve talking to her younger self in this book was just super heartbreaking (hide spoiler)]
