I haven't read the first one, though.

The show felt like the budget dictated the magical artifacts, lol... main selling points were the casting choices (recognizable actors)...

it's been like 8 years since the first one came out, and I knew I wasn't going to start it until I knew the 3rd book was on the way, because that was already well into his slow years... he started writing the next Dresden book in April, I think, and hopes to be done this month... I'll believe it when I see it...
EDIT: website says next Dresden is 10% done so far...

True & Agreed

This is one of those books where an old villain is involved....

Yeah, but for the life of me, I can't remember him. I even went back to his book, but nothing. I may have read it too quickly.
that was awhile ago... book 11... previous dirty cop book, and the one where the IAB detective and Roarke get into a fist fight I think, when detective reveals feelings he had for Eve...
Max Ricker was mostly peripheral to that one, too... he'd been busted 6 months prior to the book, and his connection was mostly a red herring to a (view spoiler)

Never trust the fact Choko has rated a book already... half the time these (books in general, not just In Death books) are re-reads... unless she just added a new read date :D

Ah! LOL!

Anyway, I'm reading Chapter 4. Eve has just met with Morris; he realizes this hits close to home for Dallas; does he learn her truth?

I think i might be hitting a lull with these last few, but theyre definitely still comfort reads!

Yes.

I am reading chapter 19; they just did the holo-confrence-interview-thingy.
The judge's mother cracked me up!
And now Roarke is bribing Eve with cake.
I do love how they slide bits of levity into the darkness.

I finished #27.5 and moved on to #28 Promises in Death--binged while cleaning yesterday. Oof, that was a kicker. I did love the bachelorette party though, and especially how (view spoiler)
I totally did not realize Morris was a young hottie though... my brain image of him had a crochety old man...

Yes! I loved that part too!

I didn't have him as elderly or crotchety (lol), but I did see him as older than he seems to be.

I'm torn between taking a breather and reading something else this weekend or delving into Fantasy in Death.

I'm starting to have trouble keeping the books separate... but checking out the description at the link helps! I really liked how that one explored the past...
Do you have a break-book in mind, Narilka? Otherwise, no harm in just jumping in to the next one... ^^

I am reading Chapter 5 of the former; I was shocked at the murder in question. It seems particularly gruesome, even though the murders from the last 2 or 3 books were also horrible.
From what we learn in these early chapters, the victim and company needed a lot more guidance; either that or it is very much an inside job.
Legends and Lattes is great... read it twice already...
Fantasy in Death is definitely a gut punch murder book, for those involved... closer ties between victim & perpetrator... not a stranger...

I hope I didn't put it in a completely random thread! LOL
Anyway, I may or may not be sneaking in a few pages of Indulgence in Death (Book#31) during my work hours... Shhh.

This is a rough one!
I only got a few pages into Indulgence in Death (darn having to work for a living), and in those few pages, they made me cry! Yeah, yeah, I am a softy. But Roarke's reaction to Eve's gift.... *sob*

Started #31 Indulgence in Death last night... first truly simple book in awhile, I think... no connections to the police department, and no real connections between victim & perpetrator I think... truly random killer...

So far, that is the case. I'm about nine chapters in.

The books have a rhythm through a number of different case styles... and we're ramping up towards #33, New York to Dallas, where Dallas has to return to Texas and confront her past head-on, due to a case... and the next big Icove-y case is soon... IIRC, it's the one where cast members of the Icove movie start dying...

I forgot there was going to be a movie.
This case (Indulgence) reminds me of a movie, but I can't think of its title. I was going to say Trading Places, but that's not right. TP was a modern-day Pygmalion. This is a different troupe.

There's so many murder movies it's hard to say... there's one where a hitman uses a taxi cab to drive around town and kill a bunch of people... I think that one is Tom Cruise & Jamie Foxx...

There's nothing on the wiki, or a quick google search...
Eve is investigating the Strangers on a Train angle, but I doubt it... that has already happened once/twice... you could also associate it with that previous case where the 2 rich kids have a point system...

Oh, yeah...

Just starting #29 Kindred in Death and it does start with a gut punch... (view spoiler)

I started a year or two after you (2011/2012), but also because I saw the TV show.
I wish they had done a better job, and I would LOVE a reboot.
