@Monika--200 pages a day is very impressive for eyebook daily. I try to get about 100 pages of eyebook in a day, and probably about 6 hours of audio while putzing around... I'm up to 2.25x speed now! Nowhere near Iain speeds, but I started at 1.3x speed last year.

Fairytale shorts sound fun, definitely looking forward to those too!

Just started this, and was totally thinking the same thing... I find it amusing how the kids cling to Eve when she thinks of herself as not a kid person... I sometimes think kids are rather like cats that way... they beeline for you with some sort of sixth sense... I've had this happen to me too... I'm not a kid person, but they all seem to like me... and while I don't like kids, I respect the hopefully logical being they will be someday, and try to be patient...

Really like the premise on this one... very emotional, very high stakes...

Nirkatze, book #20 is so good!!! I am not a baby person and I like children in small doses, hence I don't have children. But I love to support their mental growth and mostly push age appropriate books their way every chance I get. The nieces call me the Book lady:)))

I actually am more than half way through Origin in Death#21 and this is the first book I actually remember from the first time I read it! As Iain said, very pivotal book, regarding things that happen because of it in the future. But it is soooo good!!! And we get a ton of great Eve/Peabody banter, we get "the jacket", and I think this is the second book with the DA, but she is starting to flash herself out in this book. We also get Trina!!!! Yay!

Mira is right - she is only human and has the right to have weaknesses and be imperfect... But I thought it was very touching when Eve told her she has the right to be pissed at her, because she sees her as perfect!!! Ooohhhh!

I think it depends what you're doing while listening... if you're doing things that can grab your attention, there's a risk of losing focus... but if you're just doing mindless chores, driving, physical activity/labor, mindless video games... it works pretty well... and the more you do it, the more you get used to focusing on it, and can listen faster/etc...

Worked for Nirkatze, who talks of speeding up from 1.3x to 2.25x...

I was like that too until I had such long drives... I went home while at Uni a couple times a month which was a 3 hour drive one way. I would have gone crazy if I hadn't tried the wonder that is audiobooks lol

Finished #20 Survivor in Death and jumped right in to #21.

Really liked Survivor. I totally agree with Choko, and thus really liked how Eve dealt with Nixie--she basically treated her like another adult, didn't talk down to her, which is why Nixie liked her so much... I really liked the scene with the party at Eve's house, when Nixie got to talk to the other kid. Made me think of how support groups and having things in common are so useful.

It was also cool to see Eve & Roarke deal with the Kids question, and what they might be like as parents--and I think it also put to rest a lot of the will-they won't-they questions about having children--and emphasized what--was it Emily who found that J.D. Robb post about how they won't ever have kids while working post?--but emphasized how they aren't in a place to move in that direction. Also--I really like that this version of America has a professional parent status. That NEEDS to be a thing.

I also liked the Roarke & Sommerset chat. Big AWW moment.

#21 Origin in Death--actually just slllllurrrrpped this one up, all done, yum! Really like the SF twist! Bit of Stepford Wives, bit of Jason Bourne, felt more action-y than previous. But oof that ending!!! Man what a gut punch.

Also loved that Dr. Mira chat that Eve had--and I think there was a good Nadine spat in there too? Already a bit blurry now...

So feeling this! We've got some pretty impressive distances between places up here in AK--my mom is looking at moving to a community that is 5 hours away, and now I actually look forward to being able to visit her for the audiobook time!

As for speeding up--it really helps getting used to a narrator too, I think. I can do the In Death books at 2.5x now, but I need to bring it back down to 2x or so for other books...

For sure... just because you can do 2.5x/3x/4x (Soo), doesn't mean it's going to work for every book/narrator... I slow down if the narrator is naturally fast, or it's a new series and I need to get used to the characters/worldbuilding, and/or it's really similar to another book I just read...

Entrepreneur Boy... the like, 9 year old with a suitcase, who goes around selling stuff, and constantly ropes Dallas & Peabody into winter purchases... I think he takes care of his grandma?...

I've especially found that there are some timbres of voice (especially male) that my brain just wants to tune out entirely, and I have to slow down... I wonder what that says about my brain. LOL

That's kind of what I appreciate most about this series. Even when someone (mostly Eve or Rourke) is being dumb about a relationship, they always come back and admit to being an ass

Read #22.5: these shorties, and the intros to most main books, show how Dallas really is a bit of a supercop... "New York's best cop" I think has been said a few times... it seems like half the cases she walks in and has solved, just needs to prove...

Memory in Death Through Chapter 6. I had to pause the book so I could come comment before I just go and read the whole thing like I've been doing with everything else and then I went and replied to everything I've been meaning to reply to for the past couple days lol But finally I get to the reason I got on my laptop in the first place! :D (view spoiler)[ OKAY someone is trying to set up Eve or Roarke for this murder... I kind of thought it was a suicide at first, but her self-flaggelation seems to have happened a bit earlier than her death. Also damn, does this lady need some therapy...

I hope Eve doesn't suspect Roarke. I don't think we've been on that particular track in a while, but there is a danger here. I think what's most likely to happen is someone else is gonna try to blame either/both of them. (hide spoiler)] I'm interested to see what happens!

I finished #22... Memory in Death... Loved it! (view spoiler)[ Another closing, like in the series The Closer, where they couldn't have convinced without a confession... I thought Eve had the suspect's type very well and worked it just right! I also don't think it would have worked if the suspect didn't feel some comradeship with Eve. All those things worked in the cop's favor. I hate that the spouse is so in love, they are most probably going to do exactly as the murderer predicted... Love can make people so stupid!!! I thoroughly enjoyed Portrait in Death (I'm not crying, you're crying) and am now about 1/3 of the way (7 chapters) into Imitation in Death.

The concept of the killings is creepy but interesting. I wonder how many victims there will be before the killer is caught; and how they'll go about catching him.

Sometimes I get a kick out of Roarke flirting w/ Peabody (in front of Eve, of course). It just seems so endearing.
I can't remember; has he ever done so in front of McNab?

Does Peabody ever learn about Dallas' past?

Peabody now recognizes when Dallas drifts away, but will she ever know why?

She does tell Peabody, I am just not sure now when exactly... But she did in one of the books we just read... However, Peabody is a smart cookie and she has figured most of it out already...

Imitation in Death did a great job at a murderer with a classic serial killer personality though!

Just started #22 Memory in Death! Met scarf boy... very curious about who the green & black is for? Not Roarke, surely...

About 4/10 hours in... (view spoiler)[was interested to see that the Foster lady died so quickly... I wasn't expecting that to happen, when it looked like she was just getting started making trouble for Eve... very curious about what the angle is...

I also keep thinking about that there were TWO quotes at the start of the book... Shakespeare one on the nature of memory (fickle) and another that I can't remember... LOL can't remember. heh. Anyway, at the time I was thinking about the different angles a story on "memory" could take... I do like how Robb uses twists on those title words for each story... (hide spoiler)]
