I really liked the personal plotline throughout as well--especially when (view spoiler)

Will definitely do that on my work computer! :D

Oh I didn't even think about that aspect (view spoiler)

Near the end when Roarke goes to (view spoiler)

Emily, that was hilarious:) I think this is why I love these books - humor, tragedy, friendships, love, and just some of the most touching moments, are very well balanced, so the books feel so much more "meaty" than others of the genre...
Eve's a bit of a supercop, sometimes... but I don't mind it...
It kinda reminds me of Pendergast and his Chong-Ra... it's some secret Tibetan Buddhist discipline that allows him to go into a deep trance that seems alot like time travel... very mystical, and supernatural... he sees things he couldn't possibly have pieced together from data... and the authors act like it's a real thing, but the monastery that teaches it is too secret to reveal...
At least with Eve is relatively believable supposition, getting into the mind of the killer...

I'm really glad the story actually addresses this!
@Iain, re: supercop--I feel like I've been noticing this more in the past couple books recently too, how Eve goes into her "mind of the enemy" mode and walks through the motives & actions... I wonder if the FBI will ever try to snatch her up as a profiler?

Hear hear! Three cheers for Dr. Mira!
@Emily--I get what you mean though! Eve's definitely making progress... great character development. I like to see them evolving from counselor/reluctant patient into surrogate mother/daughter though. And we always need our parental mentor figures...

re: mother & father--(view spoiler)

You just need to delay all interactions until you can play through every permutation in your head (which is why you always find the best response AFTER the fact :D )

Also I love the photography guy! Definitely agree with Eve and Dr. Mira here :)
I'm wondering after this one (view spoiler)

Iain, yes, that would be the ideal way to do things, but I always get overwhelmed by emotions and say things that get misunderstood... I am trying though:)))
I finished #16. What a great book! I felt sorry for the killer at the end too... I wish people had noticed that he had gone over the bend and somehow prevented all of those bright souls being killed. And I didn't see it coming, but I should have, about the last person he took. We all know what a bright and beautiful soul he is...

I feel like I’ve fallen completely behind in everything!
Tammie just pointed out a series sale going on sitewide on Chirp right now... for In Death, Reunion, Purity, and Portrait in Death are only $4 each right now on audio... mostly useful to people a bit behind, I think, since we're up to Imitation in Death now, the one right after those 3...
Reading Big Jack from Remember When right now... it's one of my least favorite entries in the series...
It's a novel-length extra, not counted in the main continuity... bit of an author experiment, telling a contemporary romantic suspense story as Nora Roberts and then following it up with an Eve Dallas story as JD Robb connected to the first story with descendents...
But the continuity is borked, for one thing... Summerset is on vacation during this one... the sex on the stairs scene referenced in the previous 1-2 books happens... but Peabody is also (view spoiler)

Read Divided in Death today (#18)... another solid entry... kinda lacking in on-page Summerset tho...
Bit of Eve/Roarke drama... backstory developments for Eve... worldbuilding for Caro (Roarke's admin)... solid Eve/Mavis stuff and Eve/Mira stuff... Peabody settling in after the big deal moment last book... Trueheart zooming along to his first lead investigation (side story)...
Eve had a pretty solid grasp of the case all along (like usual)...

And I also loved the scene with Dr. Mira, where Eve is trying to have smalltalk and failing miserably, but of course Dr. Mira is just smiling proudly and going along with it...
And that really comes out all the much stronger on audio, I think, where you can really hear the hesitation in Eve's voice...

I love the whole thing about recycled paper. It's nice to see such an emphasis on reusable products...
Also really liked the interaction with Nadine. Her secret is out!

Just hit that spot with the granny--and I swear there was a similar scene in #16... She was precious--I love how she kept trying to feed Eve...
I'm up to Chapter 14, about 60% in...
I loved the BBQ scene, and the follow-up with the insane grill thingy--(view spoiler)
I loved the little gush with Baxter on Trueheart...

I liked the historical side of this book, the multi-way tie between the possible suspects (I guessed right from the start yay! Though I think we're supposed to, just like Eve...) and of course all the little moments and character growth were precious.
I think the donut reveal stole the show for me though.

I think there was a lot less sex in this one? Or maybe I'm just not noticing anymore lol
Liked the small conversation between Eve and Peabody about marriage/relationships...

So much love for that grill scene!!! It really felt like it was just about time, dammit.

These weekly books are some of my easiest books to read, so I'm trying to stay on top of them... that and the idea of having to go and push back 40 BR dates, if we fall behind and reschedule, is daunting... I/we have even been cramming in the short stories, unscheduled...
I've still got BRs open from February (just the 2 ebooks, Illuminations and Equoid the Laundry Files one on Tor.com)... and 1-2 BRs that I'm almost officially too late on to count for BR points... otherwise, I'm pretty much managing my BR dates...

This re-read is reminding me why I loved this series on audio, before the tropes / story beats started grating on me...
Another great entry with character development... and an acknowledgement that Eve's ability to get into the victim's head veers into recognized psychic abilities...

I guess I'm not thinking of this BR in date terms really... just trying to stay in the middle of the herd..

Very much looking forward to Eve confronting him and "digging it out of him"--he deserves a proper row. (hide spoiler)]
