Absolutely! She needs her friends to make her more human. Eve just had a talk with Charles about his relationship with Peabody, and none too soon, if you ask me. They had to work through this and I am glad they did!
I'm okay with pushing #11 off a week. I'm trying to catch up on other things rn and want to read #10 after Fairy Tale
I have some suspects for book #10, but I am not sure... Half way through and I am really enjoying it!
Choko wrote: "I have some suspects for book #10, but I am not sure... Half way through and I am really enjoying it!"I felt the same--but I also had a hard time keeping everyone straight! And it just keeps getting more and more twisted...
Book#10, up to Ch. 15... Just wanted to mention two moments I found hilarious.First, Young ILI, as Nyssa dubbed McNabb, asking Roark for advice on women, and that whole conversation between the two of them, had me laughing all morning!
Second, the cologne Feeny's wife gave him as a present - THE BEST EVER!!!! Him avoiding elevators and having to do steps just so he doesn't stay close to people who have a sense of smell at all, it was just comedy gold! Especially when Peabody ended the scene with "I think I am going to have a crunchy salad now", or something like that , hahaha!
Also, this is the first book we hear about the candy thief, right?
I think the candy thief has made an appearance once or twice before, but not to this extent. But yeah, that conversation between McNab & Roarke, in particular, made me LOL
OMG The crunchy salad! That keeps coming up too!I don't remember the Candy thief.
I finally started #9 today! >.<
Finished Book # 10... I really loved the drama of it and the obvious homage to the Dame Agatha Christie:) Loved the staged reveal and loved the humor of it. The date night for both couples was hilarious in the setup. Loved every character, pretty much. I also love how mitty the stories are. There are not many pages wasted at all. Her writing is masterful for what it is. I am very impressed with her plotting too, particularly after reading couple of books which had more pages and more time for character and plot development, but didn't have even close to the characters' nuance that she achieves with several sentences...

Loyalty in Death Cassandra--after the Greek prophetess? Forever doomed to be ignored? So now they're taking action?
Nirkatze wrote: "Loyalty in Death Cassandra--after the Greek prophetess? Forever doomed to be ignored? So now they're taking action?"Hah! Roarke just gave the cultural lesson. Yay Roarke! And I love how Eve is like "Greek? Greektown is all the way on the other side of the city." Plebian!
Haha! I love her plebian soul! It makes for a ton of laughs, until you actually think about the roots of it are in her upbringing and it kind of makes me sad for her.I forgot to mention the first ride Mira had with Eve. The description of the parking barrier squeaking in terror and leaping out of the way was so real and Mira's exhale of "Well, that was exciting!" , while Eve has no idea what she was talking about, was just so telling!:)))
Choko wrote: "You are right... Before the big one, the bombing in 93 was a big deal... It just got lost after in the comparison..."There was also the Oklahoma City Bombing in 95... apparently Loyalty was published in 99? That's the bombing I remember the most, up until 9/11...
Choko wrote: "Haha! I love her plebian soul! It makes for a ton of laughs, until you actually think about the roots of it are in her upbringing and it kind of makes me sad for her.I forgot to mention the first..."
LOL Don't let Eve drive...
Nyssa wrote: "*Confession* I have never seen 9 1/2 weeks, but I remember the buzz around it!..."Just found these comments! I was thinking of the movie "9 months" and was confused for a bit... I have neither seen nor heard of 9 1/2 weeks... and now I'm both curious and a little scared to check it out... I do remember seeing those shove-against-the-wall-passionate-kissing scenes around a lot though... not healthy to raise kids on that y'all...
About 5/6ths in to Loyalty in Death... I found it really interesting how scenes were juxtaposed in this book--between Peabody & McNab, Zeke & Clarissa... Conspiracy theory getting some explanation now--(view spoiler)That earlier visit to New Jersey was interesting and disturbing... still, it brought up one interesting point--parenthood, and motherhood especially, is seriously taken for granted in most societies... it takes a lot of work and stress to raise a child--each kid is like another full time job! I have great respect for people who make that choice... I am way to jealous of my "me-time" to do that. I wish there were more benefits and recognition for parents...
Finished Loyalty in Death! I enjoyed the twists and it was nice to see the start of P&M's relationship... despite the very 90s method!
Haha! I am just waking up and checking my feed, and your comment about 9 1/2 weeks and not being healthy to raise kids on those types of movies and books, had me cracking up!!! Thank you for making my morning better:)))I love the concept in the In Death world, of professional parenthood. You apply that you want to be just a parent devoted to raising children, and you get paid for it. I think it's something governments should really look into if they want more adjusted humans...
Looks like I really need to be faster with reading LOL! Just few day to end of the month plus few BR and challenge books on plate... will I do it??? Hope so LOL!
Monika wrote: "LOL! Yeah, reading 4 books at the moment, madness! :)))"Cheering you on Monika! We will stagger across those finish lines together!
Choko wrote: "Haha! I am just waking up and checking my feed, and your comment about 9 1/2 weeks and not being healthy to raise kids on those types of movies and books, had me cracking up!!! Thank you for making..."Hah! Yay! Yeah, I've often thought that about professional parenthood--you see it in some other books too--there's some in the Vorkosigan universe, in Ethan of Athos, and also in the Becky Chambers Wayfarer books--I think the Aeluon people? And then (also in the Vorkosigan saga) there's planets where in order to have children you need to first apply for a license... sometimes I've thought that wouldn't be a bad idea either.
I agree! It would be great if people took the responsibility not only of keeping their offspring physically healthy, but mentally and emotionally as well...
Tell me something about it Choko .... Kids these days are .... Nightmare... I'm working in the shop, evening shifts, amount of kids and early teens without parents coming in is shocking and their behaviour... I'll leave this without comment.
Sorry I haven't been around much, outside of "In Death Day, Tuesday/Wednesday"... between my minor mod duties, all my umpteen BRs, and taking advantage of a lull for a few days to read some non-BRs, I feel like I'm always busy, maybe spread a bit thin...
I really liked #10, the audacity of the public murder, and how much the author played into the actors playing roles...

About to start Judgement int Death...

Just joined Chirp (audiobook site)... #17, Imitation in Death, is only $4 for the next 10 days...

https://www.chirpbooks.com/audiobooks...
I actually installed an OS update & app updates, and the Chirp app to my audiobook player, before starting...
Just started now, an hour later... I like (have always liked) how each book includes 2 kinda relevant quotes, usually from classics like Shakespeare or Sir Francis Bacon... I wonder how they search out the more obscure quotes...
I found one of the quotes in #11 funny tho...
"More things belong to marriage than 4 bare legs in a bed." -- John Haywood...

Haha! Great quote! Emily, I laughed like an insane person when I read that from Nirkatze! We, GenX-ers, were really marked by our upbringing, but I guess that's true for all generations in their specific ways:)))

Hah! This was just me wanting to blame my lack of relationship success on the unrealistic depictions of romance in movies aired during my impressionable youth....
@Iain--thank you for that sale head's up! I +Followed JD Robb... her books weren't showing up on my categories... but I only have SF/F checked.
Finished Witness in Death today! Honestly this was my favorite so far! (view spoiler)Overall very enjoyable!
One of my favorites so far as well! Just the drama of it and the little details, that brought in all the emotions, was brilliant!
Tonari no Emily wrote: "Finished Witness in Death today! Honestly this was my favorite so far! The play mirroring the actual crime, and the dramatic scene at the end. I was wondering why Eve would set it up that way, but..."So true! I love how the twists were very classic, and I didn't see that coming either! It's also interesting having the whole victim/murderer dynamic flipped too...
Timelord Iain wrote: "Sorry I haven't been around much, outside of "In Death Day, Tuesday/Wednesday"... between my minor mod duties, all my umpteen BRs, and taking advantage of a lull for a few days to read some non-BRs..."OH wow, you're right I think! Somehow I doubt it will be the last... lol

Started #11 Judgement in Death-- I'm thinking given the victim's family and this quote (view spoiler)

Welp... I think my gut was off here maybe I'm a bit more than half way through and (view spoiler)
Kirsten, haha! She is so terrible at the marriage rules! She is one of those who definitely needs a book on them, so she can study and do her homework:)))
I started #11 Judgment in Death today. I'm about 2/11 hours in... a bit distracted as I'm listening, but still enjoying.I love Peabody's healthy sex drive... she's always good for a laugh--"what's the problem with seeing two guys? NOTHING!" Of course, if that was gender flopped, it'd feel kinda gross and skeevy, so maybe I shouldn't find her so refreshing?
Re: Peabody's Men: I think the gender flop would only be skeevy if the women did not know about each other.Peabody's situation is fun and acceptable because they are consenting adults, and we know all parties involved. Despite (view spoiler) small fits of jealousy, Peabody has been open and honest about the relationships with both men. I'm also pretty sure that if one or the other requested to be monogamous, she would consider the situation and make a decision.
I think (view spoiler)
********************************
I started Betrayal in Death (Book #12) yesterday evening.
I was going to post one of my thoughts on a character but changed my mind. It was a snap judgment.
With all of his suaveness, Roarke felt a little testier than usual at the beginning of this one.
And the prologue felt brutal - so I'm wondering if I am reading correctly or just being moody.
I'm a quarter of the way through the story (reading chapter 6). I'm curious to know if we've met the culprit yet.
Haha Idk Nyssa, Rourke was grating on me a bit in #11 Judgement in DeathFinished that one! I honestly did not guess who it was at first, but I think if I had been paying attention better I would have gotten it :D
And yeah I agree with your assessment about Peabody!
Mavis had a great scene in this one too! (view spoiler)

LOL I loved that bit! And how her commentary on the play was all from a police perspective, and very different from an entertainment-consumer's take.
Nadine & Eve's relationship is very interesting--their work can be mutually beneficial, but also hostile--I thought Eve jumped too hard on Mira and Mira smacked her down properly for the Nadine bit. Eve's definitely got several paranoid bones that need their corners smoothed.
