Klowey | 657 comments Have you tried Thomas Ligotti's short stories? Many are free in audio on youtube.

Kathleen | 5458 comments First book I thought of when seeing this collection of images was In a Glass Darkly by J. Sheridan Le Fanu. I thought it was an excellent selection of stories, including the famous vampire story Carmilla.

Wreade1872 | 933 comments The City of Dreadful Night, The Vorrh and The Other Side spring to mind, maybe.
Although perhaps a more conventional gothic like The Mysteries of Udolpho would be more appropriate.

Cynda | 5192 comments Have you tried the 18th-century gothic novels?
The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole
The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) | 943 comments I agree with Le Fanu, although I would suggest the collection Green Tea and Other Weird Stories which has all the stories from In a Glass Darkly and more.

Also try Books of Blood: Volumes One to Three by Clive Barker. He mixes beauty and evil more deftly than any other author I've read.
