I just finished this book and loved it. I wonder if her husband had suspicions too or if he didn’t see any of that behavior from Violet. I also wonder how much was nature and how much was nurture. She was left alone to cry for hours as a baby and that must have had an impact.
I read this at the beginning of the year and I still think about it. There’s some massive trigger warnings in it. I didn’t love it, and I definitely didn’t love the characters in it, but the story still has me thinking about it almost a year later!
I really liked this book. Some of it was hard to read because of the subject matter. It was definitely twisted. Not the usual thriller fare which I appreciated. 4 stars from me.
A book of two halves. Initially we hear about what it means to be a mother and the difficulties suffered by different generations within the same maternal line. A natural thing surely for women to experience the natural joys of motherhood. However when you are tired from sleepless nights and anxious about bonding with your baby, it can be trying. In the second half of the book we begin to understand loss and the different ways this can be experienced. This book will have you counting your blessings and reaching for the tissues. A great first novel.
