I remember that I was blown away by this book when I read it. The characters were very memorable and diverse. I could have used a bit more worldbuilding though.
I don't care how the narrator pronounces Persephone, it's 'Per-se-phone' to me unless an accent is used.

it's kinda like pronouncing Sean as See-ann
This is one of those books I bought on impulse when it was dirt cheap on sale, genuinely thinking I'd never read it. Was surprised to see it as a book of the month and figured why not. As for how "Persephone" is pronounced, Firefly tells us the "e" at the end is pronounced, lol.
3 chapters in it yet has to grab me. I'm lukewarm at the moment. I'm listening to it and I'm not very fond of the narrator's intonation which of course doesn't help with getting involved. But it's early and things might change for me soon.

I'm like six chapters in maybe and it's coming around a bit.
The problem is that so far it's just a handful of people doing things that don't really feel like they fit part of a larger narrative. Like, it isn't "about" anything yet.
I don't think I have any particular issues with the audiobook narration (other than the recording quality which is lacking). She seems to be doing okay with what she's got to work with, which is a ton of "she said"s; this author clearly subscribes to the John Scalzi School of Dialogue Attribution.
I’m about 100 pages in and enjoying it so far. The pieces are starting to come together a little. I did spend a lot of time going back and forth in the book for a while because I needed help remembering characters and their circumstances. I don’t think I would do well with listening to this one.
7 chapters in and can't make the heads or tails of it so far. Hope the details will click into place some time soon ))) Couldn't find the text version, so keeping up with names is a bit of a challenge.
About 200 pages in, and things are at least happening. Narratives are forming. Stakes are still a complete mystery.

I read the text version and had trouble keeping people straight at first. Had to keep flipping back.
I hate the idea of not finishing a book after getting at least halfway (60%) but this still has not grabbed me.
I'm almost done with this and I'm beginning to wonder why I bothered. The dialogue is atrocious. Seriously, ""she took an extremely fatal log to the head.” What makes something extremely fatal as opposed to something that is only mildly fatal?
this sounds like stuff for the spoiler thread, Tom! Can you move it please? This is just for non-specifics.
I'm really sad because I think where I am right now has so much promise and I know it's rated low so I expect to be deceived but my first impression is, this is so cool!
Allison wrote: "this sounds like stuff for the spoiler thread, Tom! Can you move it please? This is just for non-specifics."I believe I edited out anything that can be construed as specific. Sorry about that.
