Read the first few chapters, cool myth and all, I can already imagine the hanfu costumes if this novel is adapted into a drama, but I have a feeling I will have issues with the MC. Let's see.

Let's see."I didn't know what "hanfu costumes" meant until you mentioned them and I looked it up. Yeah - those descriptions in the book are particularly vivid and that's spot on.
I'm not sure about MC either.
I'm still in the middle of this. But I'm loving it so far. Some great world building. Makes me want to find a book of Chinese myths.

I like the detailing of the characters, but I'm finding the book a little slow so far.
I'm at chapter 6 and enjoying this so far, I hope we get to visit all the realms that are shown on the map! I agree with the others, I need more exposure to Chinese myths.
Mary Teresa wrote: "I like the detailing of the characters, but I'm finding the book a little slow so far."I agree with you, but it's definitely picking up (I'm now a little past the middle mark). I'm loving the mythical creatures that are included so far!
I am about 15% in :) I like it so far - the writing and the images it brings to mind. I have not seen many Chinese films, but enough to put the “right” kind of imagery in front of me. I don’t like the MC much, but that might change… (When I started reading “The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea” earlier this year, I fell for the MC immediately.)
I started listening to the audio book. The story is beautifully told; such a nice voice for the flowery language! But I fear that it might be a bit too predictable and cheesy, so I am hoping for some more depth.
