Heather | 10 comments This author has been on my TBR for so long, and I’ve even collected a few of her books. What a great idea this is! I’m so excited to join in. Many people have told me I will enjoy these books ♥️

Tr1sha Tracey, thank you for organising this. I haven’t read any Elizabeth Goudge books for many years, but remember how much I used to enjoy them. It will be a pleasure to read some of them again & share the experience in this group.

Thank you Trisha for joining the group. I truly enjoy her books and look forward to reading some of them with you.

Katrina Lybbert | 2 comments I would love to read these books, just really hard to find. My library doesn't have any but The Little White Horse and a couple others, but not on your list. And they don't seem to be available on Kindle. I can't afford to buy them all, but will see if I can get 1 or 2 of them and join in when I am able. I loved The Little White Horse, so would be happy to read it again, also.

The other books my library has are The Dean's Watch and A Scent of Water. Would they be good ones to read?

Katrina, some of the books are available for Kindle on AmazonUK, which I assume you can’t access. If you have any Apple devices, the Books app also has some of these books - though this may only apply to the UK, especially if there are copyright restrictions. I hope you are able to find some of these books.

Katrina Lybbert | 2 comments Trisha, I am in Canada so don't have access to AmazonUK. I don't have Apple either, but no worries... I will keep my eye out for opportunities to access any of these books. Thanks!

message 10: by Diane (new)

Diane Barnes Thank you for the invite Tracey. I love Elizabeth Goudge. The Dean's Watch is on my favorites list. Her books can be hard to find, but I just ordered Island Magic from Abebooks. One book a month is perfect.

Joseph (jsaltal) | 0 comments Our library appears to have some of her books.

message 12: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E I've never read Elizabeth Goudge, so I'd like to try at least one. My library system has a good selection of books.

Hi Katrina. I have been slowly collecting her books because I love them but it has taken me a few years. There are some good second-hand copies you can get. I searched abebooks.com and they have some and bookdepository.com have them new and some for about $15 including shipping. Maybe you can pick up one or two this way. I would recommend the Eliot trilogy that we will be reading over the summer (June-August).
The Dean's Watch and The Scent of Water are good books but they are later works of hers and so I will be reading these in 2024. But out of the two, The Dean's Watch is one of my favorite books.
You could also recommend the library purchase a book. I've done this a few times and all but once they did purchase them. So that's an option.

Hi Diane, Yes that's a favorite of mine too. So glad you can join us.

Hi Kathy, Her books are each unique so if you don't like one for some reason there may be another of hers that you absolutely love. I like all of them but I have my favorites. I hope you are able to find new favorites within this selection.

Thanks Tracey. My library system has Island Magic so I'll try that in January.

Edit 2/23/23: Didn't end up reading this. The print was way too small!

Kelly (marquis784) | 2 comments It doesn’t seem that these books are popular in library networks. I did put a hold on The Little White Horse.

message 23: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Sorgente | 5 comments Hello! I love Elizabeth Goudge's books and I have read nearly all of them. Are you still reading them? Is the group still functioning?

message 24: by Heather (new)

Heather | 10 comments Hi! I’m still reading the and am currently in Towers in the Midst. I had never read Goudge and I’m enjoying it. I don’t think the group is still functioning but I’d be happy to buddy read.

message 25: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Sorgente | 5 comments I have read all the books of the reading schedule of the first message. I was interested in the comments about them, especially the oncoming trilogy about the Eliot family, that I have read many times. I would like to reread Green Dolphin Country but I can wait until october!

message 26: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E I'm reading The Scent of Water which isn't on the schedule. It's very soothing.

message 27: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Sorgente | 5 comments I love it! 😍 I have read it many times. I like the way she describes mental ilnesses. Mentally disturbed people are often characters in her books and she is always kind and compassionate. She knew what she was writing about, she struggled with mental unbalance all her life.

message 28: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E That's interesting. I didn't know that, Daniela.

message 29: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E I finished The Scent of Water and liked. Goudge has a way of showing her characters with a great sensitivity. I am impressed with her writing.

Not sure I can fit The Bird in the Tree in June, but it's on my TBR.

message 30: by Dianne (new)

Dianne Hi Tracey, can you post threads also for the other books up to June? Hoping to catch up over the summer.

message 31: by Claudia (new)

Claudia Hello everyone! I have read many of Elizabeth Goudge's novels just as Daniela said (Ciao Daniela, stai bene?)

I would like to reread the Herb of Grace - and of course Green Dolphin Country! Because of Green Dolphin Country I spent a few months on Guernsey CI for an internship at a Canadian Bank.

I understood that you begin reading the first of the Eliot of Damerosehay trilogy right now. However I am caught in two Dickens novels (Oliver Twist and Little Dorrit) and in an impending Trollope group reading this month but I unexpectedly found on my shelved an old second hand copy of The Herb of Grace... in French, which is not really quite the same as reading in English. (English books deserve to be read in English, French ones in French, Italian ones in Italian, and so on)

message 32: by Cleo (new)

Cleo (cleopatra18) | 1 comments I'm going to try to join for Green Dolphin Country at least and I think I have Pilgrim's Inn but July might be a little busy for me. It's so hard to get Goudge books in Canada but I found about 4 at Value Village last month and was so excited!

(Hi Claudia! You are such an interesting person. I wish you would write a book of your life!)

Hello everyone. Just to let you all know that the group is still active and we are just starting the trilogy of the Eliot family. Join in with us whenever you can. ❤️

message 34: by Dianne (new)

Dianne It seems like Tracey is unable to have the time for the group. Does anyone else want to start in the new year? I enjoyed the Goudge books that I've read and would be interested in reading some in the new year.
