What Happened to the Bennetts by Lisa Scottolini - 4 stars

As they happily make their way home after daughter Allison's high school game, Jason Bennett and wife Lucinda, along with their son and family dog, are suddenly confronted by a pair of gun-wielding carjackers. Jason tells them to take the car and leave the family alone but the dog, fiercely protective of the family, lunges at the criminals. A shot is fired and the Bennetts' life is changed forever. Later that night a knock on their front door produces 2 FBI agents who encourage the Bennetts to enter the Witness Protection Program immediately as the carjackers are members of a vicious drug cartel. Since Jason and Lucinda can identify the culprits, their lives are in extreme danger. Reluctantly the Bennetts leave everything they own behind.

The temporary safe house is located on a bay in Delaware. Reeling from the tragedy the family just endured, Jason is determined to keep his family together and safe. Their two 'baby-sitters', FBI agents Dom and Wicki, are helpful and sympathtic but grief has become the way of life for the Bennetts. The family is allowed limited access to a computer and phones with no social media or live log-ons permitted. Jason, using a coworkers credentials, researches the shooting but finds no mention in the news. What he does find is coverage of a fire at the Bennetts' home, another at his office and a break-in at Lucinda's place of business. The cartel is covering all the bases. Suddenly, Jason finds a secret that will change everything he believes about their situation. Now he realizes that he is the only one who can save his family, possibly even from the FBI itself.

This was certainly an exciting story with a character, Jason, who will stop at nothing to protect his loved ones. At times some scenarios seemed a bit too conveniently placed, but the action never stopped. I enjoyed it.
