I wear a neck lamp to read paper books if I can't read outside in natural daylight.

Meds I take make me quite light-sensitive, so I do dark mode at all times. I also put the font at a size that keeps me from squinting-one of the really cool things about reading on a device, rather than a 'real' book.
I was an ergonomics instructor at a data entry farm, the person who taught employees assorted methods for dealing with or even preventing fatigue and injury from reading/working at a computer all day. We never let employees sit before a screen longer than 50-55 minutes--had them get up and move around for 5-10 minutes. We also encouraged them to do short exercises at their desks if they felt any kind of strain from the work--altering how they sat, do exercises to relieve eye, neck and back strain, and so on.
I did those techniques for so long that they're habit for me, including now when using my e-reader.
