November 2022 group read #1 The Root Witch by Debra Castaneda
I read this one in October, but I will be curious about what everyone thinks. I've already added several of Ms. Castaneda's books to my TBR list.
I think I'm going to pick this one up! I'd never heard of it before the nominations, and I'm excited to try something new. :D
I read this in October, and loved it. My second book by Debra Casteneda, (the first was The Devil's Shallows, which I really enjoyed too.
I know nothing about this book or author so I’m happy going in not knowing much. Happy reading to all of you and Happy Halloween
I'm so excited that this was chosen for November's read so it gets more exposure! I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!

Same here! Ordering it today!!

Unfortunately, I don’t see it for sale other than at the Evil Empire, which I refuse to support! Even the author’s website directs buyers there. 😒 Did manage to get our other read, From Below, at an independent store and I’m super excited to start that book!
It looks interesting so I will rent it or find an audio version since I don't have any money currently, waiting til next pay.
FYI I signed up for BookSirens and had gotten a free ARC from them back in September. Maybe check with them, they might still have it.
I’m on chapter 7 I think and so far this book is really good ! I like how the author took it back to the 80’s definitely love the characters. I can’t wait to read how this story unfolds!
@Indra I love BookSirens, they have the best stuff!@Char the 80's?! Say no more! I'm making time for this one!
I Iam reading another book right now and that particular book just irritates the hell out of me. I can’t wait to finish it and start our read. Lol
So I finished the book a wee bit early but it was really good !! From beginning to the end book kept my attention and I absolutely love it ! This is definitely a good book ! Honestly the suggestions that are made are always good !!
Hey everyone! About to start this one tonight and can't wait, looking forward to discussing it with you all :-)

30% of the way in according to kindle, loving it so far but (and I don't think this is a spoiler because it happens within the first couple of chapters) Knox accepting the job and moving knowing his wife would despise it without consulting her about it?!?! Terrible move on his part.

I read this prior to the start of this months theme, but my review is here:

As a bonus, this forest is real, and is possibly the largest organism on the planet!https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/fishla....
105 pages/37% in and hoping it picks up with scarier stuff/horror. LoL I'm waiting for something crazy to happen as there's a lot of dialogue and not enough situations. Let's see what transpires...
Just finished it and sadly, it just wasn't for me. For those that enjoyed it, I'm glad you did! For those that have yet to read it, happy reading :-)

Thanks for providing that link! I had already decided I needed to learn more about these trees and that sure made it convenient for me.
I started today. Just up to Chapter 4 (page 23) but I like the set-up and feel bad for Knox. I just don't think this new job is going to help his marriage. The short Chapter One was ominous and foreshadows what may come later. I'm excited to keep reading.

You're welcome. We aim not only to entertain, but to inform as well.

You just read it wrong LTJ... Just kidding :P

Haha LTJ and Kasia! You guys are too funny! I'm about a quarter of the way through now and I'm still enjoying it.
I'm up to Chapter 16 (page 123) and enjoying this. There is a good flow to the writing, and that kept me turning the pages last night. This is obviously a slow burn with minimal build-up to the horror, but the drama between Knox and the local cattle farmer, and his wife's unhappiness plus Sandra's stress at the television station is more than enough to keep this entertaining.
Now at Chapter 23 (page 173). No longer a slow build, this became even more of a page-turner several chapters ago. If you can hang on until you get to this point, I think you will be rewarded.
A very good read! Four Stars.I finished this morning. I read most of this book in one day, which I never do unless I'm really engaged with the story and also have the time to spare (or make the time).
My short, spoiler free review is here . . . . .https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I read through this book much faster than planned - it reads well and I loved Sandy and Knox, but many other characters there are underdeveloped, especially Colleen. It's a decent read though I have to say it didn't spook me out at all with an exception of a few pages in the second half.
I'm however glad I've discovered and read this book thanks to this group.
I'm about 60% through the book now. I don't mind a slow burn. I kind of enjoy the anticipation and learning more about the characters along the way. Now things are picking up, as Michael said a few comments ago, and I'm more than fully invested! I even got up early this morning to fit some more reading into my day! Darned work gets in the way of my reading - I guess I need to work to pay for my page-turning habit! 😂

The winning book for November is The Root Witch by Debra Castaneda!
