Best Book Lists - 2022

I am already seeing lists of Best Mysteries of 2022 ... I refuse to read them this early. I mean we have not even passed the final publication season.

Added - Just to clarify, these aren't my picks. It's the Publisher's Weekly list. Most of these weren't on my radar at all before.

I'm going to have a hard time making my top 10 list this year.

I agree with Theresa, way too early, however I added two ( just cannot help myself-LoL) The Grimkes: The Legacy of Slavery in an American Family and G-Man: J. Edgar Hoover and the American Century

As I said in the thread title, yes it is too early, but like Meli, I love lists and like you and Nancy J, I always find something.

I posted it here so I could find time to go back through the list more carefully.

I'll have to read the Kate Beaton one for sure since my brother lived in Fort Mac for 5 years and two of his kids were born there (Fort Mac is Canadian for Fort MacMurray.) He was teaching physics at a college there, not making big $$ in the oil business. [book:Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands|59069071]

I love these lists- I always find books I haven’t heard of, and add them to my wishlist. I’m often so focused on certain genres (re:fiction) that I have no idea what else is out there.

I really like Kirkus Reviews. Decades ago, back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, I learned about their reviews from authors and others in the publishing and bookselling business I met who wrote some of them. You can even still find online Kirkus Reviews for books published way back then.

What cracks me up is how many on the scifi and fantasy list I read or have on my TBR compared to my passion, mysteries and thrillers. It is all because of my Feminerdy Book Club.

The BBC list has titles that are much more familiar to me. Many are already on my tbr, and I read 3 1/2 of them so far. I'm adding Nightcrawling to my TBR right now.

I like the Kirkus Review lists. Some of the descriptions of the books on the book club list made me feel uncomfortable or even queasy. I guess that means that they'll be thought-provoking. I really like their historical fiction. I already previewed (first chapter or so) The Book of Goose and Afterlives, and I know I'm going to like them.

@BnB, you might like it if you have access to a library copy to try for free. The book is more about relationships than it is the video games and is not sci fi at all. Even the games are based on history and relationships (like Oregon Trail).

Great list Theresa, so many I never heard of, though there are about 5 on here that I have on my shelf. All the work of cutting the TBR is becoming a waste of time.

You are just adding more options. I have no illusions that the TBR will shrink, just that it will be freshened routinely with old dusty additions removed. Maybe we should substitute "refresh" for "trim"?

I found this list very different with a lot of intriguing possibilities previously unknown.
