my prediction of The Thunderhead going crazy semi came to fruition it was within itself.

117 years. I really felt for Rowan when he had to wait. I we should of had a few chapters of him on the ship. And it broke my heart when he wanted to go deadish because he had to wait.

Y'all the scene when the ships was taking off and Goddard was shooting them down. I was like like ahhhhhh nooooooo

Wow! Those were a lot of the same feelings I had... I was very sad when (view spoiler)[ Goddard shot those ships down! When Rend killed him, I was rejoicing, but was also pissed that she waited so long to do it! The Toneist who was with them and whom she left to die with the plain got exactly what he deserved!

It was a travesty, the belief that tones are more important than speech, so I thought the ones who took their tongues out went against their own religion and everything Grayson was trying to teach them... But we had a lot of examples of Toneists trying interpreting words that Grayson said wrong or just spinning their meanings to some crazy conclusions and their own ends... I think this was what made the biggest impression on me from the whole series - people really have to be careful what they write or say, because it can be understood in ways they never meant. Like the guy who wanted to destroy all almond trees because the Toll said he didn't like almonds, thus almonds are unholy abominations... What the heck?!?! Can you imagine how wrong we are in interpreting the meaning of everything written millennia ago? Even hundreds of years. Words, traditions, expressions, all change through the ages. Slang 50 years ago is almost completely misunderstood today. Books written in the 80's and 90's are already totally dated... This is why I read all old manuscripts as a source material for knowledge, but I don't take every word verbatim and treat it as law. But that is enough for my feelings on interpretation of religious texts... I thought the author made a great point with his examples of the Testaments, which were obviously written some time later of the time Grayson was actually alive and then once again interpreted by people centuries removed.

Jericho was a great character, and despite my agreeing with you that he deserved an apology, I still think that Grayson was harsh in declaring The Thunderhead as unsavory to him... That scene made me very sad for the AI! The Thunderhead is doing everything, no, beyond EVERYTHING, to keep humanity safe and happy, has never needed gratitude or apologies until humanity showed it it had gotten complaisant and was self-destructing, and Grayson can't understand one thing it had to do in order to be able to create another caring AI? Come on dude!!! You were being a rude asshole to it just because you were moody hundreds of times and it never said anything, but the one time it did something that it "felt" it had no other choice but to do, and you can't let it slide? I don't agree at all... My heart kind of broke for the Thunderhead. Grayson was the only one it had left to communicate with, while Grayson had a bunch of folks around to chat with... However, I would have a bit of a question about the Unsavory folks. I understand if all adults took responsibility for the actions of the Scythes, leaving them to continue doing horrible stuff and not doing anything about it, but why the kids and more specifically those too young to have understanding of how things work in this world!? And what about the children that are just being born? Shouldn't they be exempt? They have nothing to do with anything...

Rowan was great and I agree, I wish we had gotten some chapters of his life on the ship, but I think if the author had decided to do so, it would have been very hard to choose which parts would convey the best information of that trip through space and 117 years. And I think anything would not have been enough, so he chose to skip it all and go with the end scene. I thought that it packed a bigger punch this way and we got the overwhelming love he has for Anastasia with those few sentences. Really well written! (hide spoiler)]

Nirkatze, I am with you. I hope the short stories coming up are not prequels, but maybe from the flights to the other planets, or even life on those planets or Earth in the future.
