message 101: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Elizabeth | 95 comments I tried to read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan but I was so disturbed by 60+ pages of footbinding I had to call it quits. I, clearly, didn't really know what footbinding was.

I did end up reading The Shadow of the Wind and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Author - 0
Genre- 0
Cover- 0
Pages- 3

Thanks for the fun challenge!

Janice (jamasc) | 60170 comments The foot binding was very disturbing. I knew about it, but I had no idea what was involved. If you are past that section, I would really encourage you to continue the book. The worst is over and the rest of the story is very good.

message 103: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments I agree with Janice, it is a must read. I just found all the cultural aspects of that book so interesting, and yes but binding is plain and simple torture!

Connie has 18 in the first post. :0)

message 119: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments I also read Cloudstreet, which others have reported as worth 9 points. That is two points better than the book I reported at message 75 (Look What the Wind Blew In, for 7 points). But the difference in points isn't enough to warrant repeating where the Cloudstreet points come from, so I guess I will stick with what I had.

Bah. That's silly. But check your version to make sure you got the points, it may be worth it.
