So glad to find this group. Dystopia has to be my favorite genre because it has so much potential to hold a mirror up to who we are and who we may become.
Been studying the history of the genre. For a long time, I thought We was the first dystopian novel. Then, through research (and I don't know if this is definitive) but I learned that the first dystopian novel was actually written by ... wait for it... Jack London.
Yeah, the dude that I mistakenly thought mainly wrote about wolves and sled dogs, actually wrote a dystopian called The Iron Heel. He also has another one that's pretty dystopian called The Scarlet Plague.
Has anybody read them. I thought both were quite good!
