Keith (kgf0) | 377 comments There are any number of author profiles whose names can arguably be expressed in more than one way, and frequently The Powers That Be will issue a definitive decision on which format is canonical for the root record and add a Librarian Note so well-meaning Librarians with different opinions will stop cycling through the variants.

Che appears to be one of these. Over time, this profile has been Che Guavara, Ernesto Guevara, Ernesto "Che" Guevara, and presently Ernesto Che Guevara.

I believe the relevant Librarian Manual guidance is that "all editions should be the author name the book was originally published under" and that this would be Che Guevara (as he is most frequently referred to in the U.S.), but I am not entirely certain of either of these facts.

I think it would be useful if we could get a ruling and an authoritative Librarian Note on the profile.

lethe | 16359 comments Since Che is a nickname, I would vote for Ernesto "Che" Guevara.

The "originally published under" rule concerns pseudonyms versus real names. Since Ernesto "Che" Guevara is merely a longer version of the name and many(?) editions have it, I think it's the best option.

Many covers have Ernesto Che Guevara (without any quote marks to set off Che). That would be my vote.

Conveniently, that is the current iteration, so I have added a librarian note to the profile that points back to this thread.

Thanks.
