This is Del’s backstory and it’s placed here later in the series. Would you have preferred reading this at the beginning or is now better timing? Would it have changed your opinion of him or Faz if it we’d read it earlier?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I think it depends on whether we are going to see some fallout from this story in the next one. It's been many years since Del moved to Seattle. I have to think Moss has moved on. I hope the next book shines some light on what happened after this novella ended so abruptly.

~Melissa~ | 429 comments I have to say I liked getting it now after we already have a feel for who Del is as a person and a detective. If we had gotten this earlier and then had to try to remember all of this while reading What She Found (Tracy Crosswhite, #9) by Robert Dugoni I think it would've been harder and we would've had a different view of Del.

Melissa, I’m glad you answered this after reading the next book

I actually read this before starting the series (didn’t know it was connected) and I couldn’t quite forget this but my opinion of Del and Faz changed after the book that focused on Del’s niece. I’m glad it’s placed here.

I have no idea how you were able to wait to see what happened after you found out it was a before #9 novella. Not sure I'd have been able to wait - I may have jumped the reading order to get my answers, lol

Melissa, it’s almost impossible for me to read out of order. I was distraught when I learned this was connected to the series. When it was offered for review, it wasn’t included in the description.

Oh - that wasn't really nice of whoever put it up for review. Unless they had no idea it was included in this series.

~Melissa~ | 429 comments It sort of reminds me of a scene in the In Death book I read last month Dark in Death where Roarke wonders how Eve has already made it to the end of the book and she tells him: No - I flipped to the end and read it. Totally priceless scene for us readers, lol. Granted that is totally an Eve thing to do.

The book was offered from the publisher and they do this a lot. The problem was it hadn’t been set up on Goodreads as part of the series yet. I never trust the publishers.

Well that stinks. I guess I'm better served not getting books from the publisher.

No, I love getting the books! I’ve just learned to do my homework here on Goodreads first. Or check the author’s website.

This one sorta of disoriented me for a bit concerning Del with already knowing him from other books. I had to stop and think...get my wits about me and what I know from later before proceeding. And now that I'm almost finished with the next book, I understand the point and the abrupt ending and how it is playing into the next one with Tracy on a cold case. I think I like it right where it is in the series line up.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3485 comments I went right from this book to What She Found. The Last Line feels like an extra long prologue to me. I like it where it is.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments I did the same, Sharon.
