Moss Gunderson put Del in charge of the investigation of the two men found in the harbor, even though it was Del’s first day. Did you find anything suspicions about that at the time?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I thought Moss was testing Del to see how he would respond to being in charge of a case. I figured he would make sure that Del was making the right calls and interviewing all of the witnesses. At the time, I didn't have any suspicions that Moss was dirty.

~Melissa~ | 429 comments I was with Robin. I thought he was trying to see where Del was at with his abilities as the new guy. I didn't think anything was wrong until Moss kept sending Del to do stuff on his own.

I thought it a little odd seeing as most detectives wouldn’t want to hand off a complex case to someone they didn’t know but also thought he’d shadow him, seeing what skills he had. But, I didn’t immediately think something rotten was going on.

~Melissa~ | 429 comments Although, Moss was trying to make it pretty much appear from the beginning that it was an 'easy' case for the new guy to get his feet wet on.

Which was also strange. Two guys fished out of the harbor with no identification or immediate time or method of death. That’s not easy.

Exactly - it was strange. Made me wonder if Moss thought Del wouldn't go 'against' the veteran and just go with what Moss told him. Especially with Del coming from the midwest - one of my thoughts at the time anyway. I would think not a lot of boat drug movement in Wisconsin.

Good point.

I agree with everyone on this one. At first, I thought Moss was trying to break Del in by allowing him the lead on this case and that he'd keep a close eye on him.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3485 comments I didn't think it was odd. Del was an experienced cop, even though he was new to homicide. I thought Moss was giving Del a test. Like any mentor, Moss would make suggestions if Del took the wrong tact or missed something. When I was a network manager, I did the same thing. I gave the new hires a small project to see how they work.

Initially, I sensed that Moss knew something (which was correct) and could judge Del's performance. I didn't think Moss was another sleazy cop.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments I figured that there was probably something big about this short story that we would at least see by the book we've also been reading. I didn't trust Gunderson much to begin with.
