Must be active in the buddy discussion to count for the points. Minimum of two comments talking about the contents of the book, not only "It's good, I like this/that."

Bopeep (bopip) | 1088 comments For me, reading a classic is always scary since the language is harder and the descriptions are long and boring. But for now, I like what I've read~ What do you think about the book for now?

LiteraryCryptid | 217 comments I agree, the language is very. . . unique, to the time it was published. I find the pace is more drawn with a focus to details that we seem to have moved from. I've also noticed spin off novels (and other media) have created a much higher level of anticipation about suspense and (I'm going to call it) horror around this book than it's currently giving. But I absolutely love it so far.

Bopeep (bopip) | 1088 comments Yes, classics can be a bit hard to read sometimes, but I like this one.
I like horror novels or tales from the past, since they aren't the kind of scary with which I can't sleep at night, but more... intellectual?

Chapter 8

I've read these 4 chapters so fast, I'm curious about all that will happen: to Harker, to Lucy, to Mina... I didn't expect to be that many characters, but I'm liking it! They all have different point of views.
And we don't know what are Dracula's abilities yet, but it seems to be a shape-shifter too? (view spoiler)

Bopeep (bopip) | 1088 comments I'm surprised that I'm loving this book O.o I thought it being a classic would be slow and with little action (which maybe is) but there are a lot of misteries happening. I'm on chapter 12, back to Mina's diary, and I want to know more!

How are you doing with the book? Are you liking it?

LiteraryCryptid | 217 comments I'm loving it. It's my 2nd read through and I'm seeing a lot that I missed on my first read.
I love the symbolism behind both Dracula, his alternate forms, and the familiars he has.
Reading this, has me really wanting to check out the legends that Dracula is based off of.

LiteraryCryptid | 217 comments There is a particular elegance in the way the final battle is described that I just can't put an accurate description on. It hold back from the gore found in modern writing, depicting action in the same way you'd expect someone to describe watching a ballet, and the final blow is mulled over with the characters relief, joy, and sadness at the fate of the others.

While I still find the last bit a slight chore with the much more rapid jump from character perspectives, I find it lends to the chaos that they are experiencing, and pushes the urgency of their actions.

Overall still a favoured vampire re-read (beats Twilight by a mile :P ).

What are your thoughts on the ending?

Bopeep (bopip) | 1088 comments After a month... I've finished!!

I did like it a lot, it wasn't a boring classic. It had mor action and mystery that I expected.

I expected that Dracula would "win". I thought that he was tricking Mina somehow, and I was expecting a massacre from him at the end, so (view spoiler)

Oohh @LiteraryCryptid I love how you describe it <3 It was like that, yes, it all felt gothic/romantic in some way. And what's the symbolism you talk about? :o I have little information about the book nor the author, so I would like to know that too.
