Deception by Amanda Quick
Deception by Amanda Quick

Join us in reading this HR that features the theme it’s all about the money. Happy reading!

Synopsis:

From a cozy cottage in rustic Dorset to a magnificent mansion steeped in secrets comes a dazzling tale of lost pirate gold and legendary love... Once Olympia Wingfield had been free to devote all her time to her true passion: the study of ancient legends and long-lost treasure.

But now, with three hellion nephews to raise, the absentminded beauty has very little time for research. Which makes it seem all the more serendipitous when a handsome stranger strides into Olympia's library unannounced and proceeds to set her world to rights. Tall and dark, with long, windswept black hair, Jared Ryder, Viscount Chillhurst, is the embodiment of Olympia's most exotic dreams ... a daring pirate, masquerading in teacher's garb, whose plundering kisses and traveler's tales quickly win her heart.

Yet all too soon innocent Olympia will discover that the enigmatic and wickedly sensual Chillhurst is no lowly tutor, but a future earl with a wealth of secrets-—the kind that will lead them both on a perilous quest for hidden fortune and a love worth more than gold.

Do you ever use Open Library? It is not as easy to use as a hard or ecopy. However, there are many books that are not published as ebooks in Australia and are hard to get hold of, so I often read them via Open Library. I believe that this book is there (as that is how I plan to read it...it not being available here)

It is good when you cannot get hold of those older books

Merry in and out for the next few days (jewelhound) | 855 comments Thanks Susan, I will check it out.

Merry in and out for the next few days (jewelhound) | 855 comments Chapter 5. I am a HUGE fan of Amanda Quick. It is interesting how perceptions can differ according to the setting. To Jared's family he is boring but in Olympia's world he is dangerous and a pirate. I am not a fan of a scatterbrained characters....male or female...so I will see how this goes. It is a plot device that allows the author to bypass things.
Again Thank you Susan!

Oleander | 263 comments You're off to an early start, Merry. I hope you enjoy.

Merry in and out for the next few days (jewelhound) | 855 comments Thanks Oleander, We have been having some rainy weather so I have been stuck inside.
The story has been moving along a bit slowly but definitely picked up at the end of chapter 9

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1215 comments I read this not long ago. Gave it a good review. Do hope you all enjoy reading it 📖

Merry in and out for the next few days (jewelhound) | 855 comments Chapter 11 was a lot of fun.

Mariana | 2692 comments Wow, so many comments already! I am looking forward to it but won't be able to start until next month.

message 12: by Oleander (new)

Oleander | 263 comments I got started on this last night. I had to do a hard remind of myself that women in the past were raised to generally trust men to handle business and not be involved and that they were often unaware of the fact that men can be sexual predators. This female character is NAIVE!

Maureen | 183 comments I finished the book and I loved it. It was my first Amanda Quick novel. I anticipate reading more. I like her writing , characters and enjoyed the plot. I gave it 5 stars.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

message 14: by Oleander (new)

Oleander | 263 comments She finally got mad and called him "Mr. Chillhurst". That was so satisfying.

message 15: by Oleander (new)

Oleander | 263 comments It was a nice book. I really liked the characters. Even the supporting characters were interesting. Mrs. Bird was my favorite. The kids were great, and Minotaur was just a dog being a dog and it was perfect.

Like others I started this one early and finished today. It was delightful. as stated above the side characters were great. I especially liked the two old bucaneers! I also liked the humour - making Jared a dull old pirate was inspired. Can't decide on a rating - on the upper side of 4 stars, not quite a 5 star read

Merry in and out for the next few days (jewelhound) | 855 comments Good way to put it Susan about Jared. Maureen I am a big fan of Quicks. I have not tried her books under her other pen names. Oleander I do think she writes good supporting characters.

Merry in and out for the next few days (jewelhound) | 855 comments OK I just realized that I read this a month early....

Mariana | 2692 comments Starting this today!

message 20: by Mariana (new)

Mariana | 2692 comments Just finished the prologue. I am already enjoying it! Even though they are opposites, I like Jared and his family - his buccaneer father and uncle, mother who reminded him on her deathbed that he sold her necklace, and his cousins who cost him an eye. Quite a colorful family!

Jared is more my type though, responsible and a good businessman:

"His watch and his appointment journal were the two things he valued most in his daily life, Jared thought."

I am looking forward to meeting Olympia. Her uncle's description of her intrigued me as much as it did Jared.

Merry in and out for the next few days (jewelhound) | 855 comments I think Jared was my favorite. It must have been hard for him having such colorful characters as family.

Lauren | 1370 comments I seem to be late starting this book this month.

message 23: by Oleander (new)

Oleander | 263 comments You're not late Lauren. The rest of us were early. I tried to read it in late Oct. so I can focus on holiday theme reading at the end of the year.

message 24: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 1370 comments I guess I can't complain after I read Nov. read, Lady In Red, in. Oct. I highly recommend by the way!!!!

Milly Jane Maven | 32 comments Looks like a fun read, I have to go get this. Update: Looking a little closer at the synopsis, I think I have already read it, but rereads can be fun too.

message 26: by Peaktopeak (new)

Peaktopeak | 34 comments This one is one of my Amanda Quick keepers. I love her books (under all her pen names) but this era of her historicals (I also kept Desire and Reckless) is probably my favorite. I agree the difference in perspective of him being boring to his family and a pirate to Olympia added to the fun. The madcap families are always fun and one of her recurring themes. Great to have an excuse to revisit!

message 27: by Mariana (new)

Mariana | 2692 comments I am still loving this book! I will probably finish tonight.

message 28: by Mariana (new)

Mariana | 2692 comments "He was no longer the man he had been some days ago; no longer the levelheaded, unimaginative man of business who had innocently set out to buy a stupid diary with the pragmatic intention of keeping the rest of his family out of trouble. He had become, instead, a man in the grip of an all-consuming desire; a man soaring on the wings of passion. He was a poet, a dreamer, a romantic."

message 29: by Milly Jane (new)

Milly Jane Maven | 32 comments I thought I might have read this book but realized I hadn't when I got started.
I've read the first five chapters and I'm loving it, fun characters and a great story line. I like the name of Minotaur the dog, the three nephews are great. I took a sneak peak at the end of the book, (if I was reading a paperback I would have already read the ending first), why read the book if you don't like the ending, right? Well, I was really happy with the ending so I'm back to reading on from chapter five until the end now.
