The October reading challenge is a Title challenge. You need to read a book with the word "Ghost" in the title. You could read Ghost by
Jason Reynolds, Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier or The Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi or Hush, Baby Ghostling by Andrea Beaty or even Ghosts: A Natural History: 500 Years of Searching for Proof by Roger Clarke.

Does the book need to be about 'actual' ghosts? No! Just needs that very specific word in the title.

Let's see what you all find to read.

Good luck!

Greg (danceyeah) | 289 comments I read Ghost Radio by Leopoldo Gout.

8/8 for 2022

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments The Haunting Danielle series all have Ghost in the title. They're a lot of fun. (Eaudio only through the library)

Britt did you read those this month, or are they just a recommendation?

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments Oh sorry, recommendation. I've read the first 29 twice each lol just not this month.

JoAnn (jladybug) | 144 comments I just started Ghost by Jason Reynolds. I can see why it may make some parents uncomfortable, but I think this is going to be a positive book. I read Long Way Down which took my breath away.

Brittany | 120 comments I don't know if I will have time to get to it this month because my October reading list is a little bit ridiculous :) However, I am going to try to squeeze in These Ghosts Are Family by Maisy Card. It's a book about a man who faked his death and stole the identity of his best friend. Years later his daughter, who thinks he is dead, is his home health aide. Not spooky at all, but it looks like an intriguing read.

Ooh, that sounds very interesting!

Em | 69 comments I am not one for horror or disturbing themed books. But I found one to read that isn't spooky at all. Ghost Boy: My Miraculous Escape from a Life Locked Inside My Own Body by Martin Pistorius. It sounds very interesting. Completed, 10/14

message 14: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 255 comments I read The Ghost of Marlow House, a paranormal cozy mystery.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments I love Ghost of Marlow House.

Teresa | 255 comments Britt, me too. The next one in the series is on my TBR now.

The Ghost of Marlow House sounds fun. And now I want to give it a try (and for some reason watch The Ghost and Mrs Muir). :D

Does anyone need help finding a book to read? Or is everyone just too busy reading?

Deborah | 184 comments Elizabeth wrote: "Does anyone need help finding a book to read? Or is everyone just too busy reading?"

I don't need help finding a book now; but, I have to admit that I had trouble finding a book that interests me that isn't too spooky. I tried going the picture book direction. Not surprisingly all of the books I wanted were checked out already (Happy Halloween!) Anyway, I finally found a book that was in stock at the library that fit the prompt. The book that I am reading for this challenge is: Ghost of a Chance by Kerry Blair

October is a hectic month for us between Halloween and my son's birthday. Seven years old this year! We are reading a lot, too. Most of our books aren't ghost related, though.
I finished Ghost. I enjoyed it. I read The Scarecrow and other stories: 14 Dark Tales of the Civil War: Volume Four, a collection of mainly ghost stories. I have also been enjoying the Anthony Horowitz Hawthorne series, recommended by my sister. I'm finishing the last one now. I read the first one this month as well. I agree with my sister in hoping he'll add to the series.

My son and I read The Thirteenth Fairy, Fortunately, the Milk,
The Wolves in the Walls, Dolphins at Daybreak and a few Pete the Cat books. We are reading The Long-Lost Home. He really enjoyed this series.
We have Ghost Town at Sundown on our to read list.
The biggest challenge is getting him to read to me, which us his current school goal. He is a great reader, but reluctant to show his parents.

Edit: A fourth book is to be released mid-November! The Twist of a Knife

Sandy (sngrant) | 7 comments I read Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier . My son recommended it to me. It was a nice quick graphic novel with a good story.

It's good to hear that people have been reading. I can't believe it's already the middle of October. What happened to September?

Normally, I'd say it blew away on the cool winds of an autumnal October. This year, I think the heat expanded August and it swallowed September.

OH MY GOSH. It's true! I laughed out loud, and told my colleagues, and we all laughed, and think you're correct. :D

message 30: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 674 comments It's like all the months shifted forward one. May had April's weather, September had August's, and so on.

I think you have it right. It does seem like the months moved forward a month.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments Year after year I say "why can't we have a few weeks in the 70s?" and this year we finally do! except the pollen is so bad I can't enjoy it. *facepalm*

message 33: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 674 comments Yes, I've been shocked to have this whole month in the 70s so far.

I didn't realize pollen could be bad in fall, too. :(

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments It's mostly the sagebrush. It's out to kill me.

message 36: by Linda (new)

Linda Nielson | 279 comments I read Ghost Talkers by Mary Robinette Kowal . It was really good.
It is an Historical Fantasy book that takes place during WWI.
It is about Mediums in the Spirit Corps who talk to the soldiers who have just died to get information about what they saw before they died. The mediums then relay the information on to the army to help them with the war effort.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments I have 4+ books checked out in Libby for this and kept thinking "I've got time" but it's after 9 on the 31st and it's time to admit defeat lol

message 43: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 674 comments Any kid books on Libby?

message 44: by Debbie (last edited Nov 01, 2022 09:20PM) (new)

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments Yes, there are books for the kidlettes on Libby. There are even some picture books. The most bizzare are the audio versions of picture books. Talk about losing something in the "translation"!

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments I had a couple of shorter middle grade or poetry ish books but by 9:30 last night even those weren't getting finished lol.
(I really wish I could use emojis here)

message 46: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 674 comments I read a MG book on Sunday afternoon; it was pretty quick. I found it in a stack of books the elementary school was giving away.
