When gold rusts, what then will iron do?

A king destined to rule. A priest determined to protect his land. A demon out to Create chaos. A princess with her eyes on the throne

When a demon murders the regent, young King Elmes leaves his island palace and sails north to conquer a frozen wilderness rich in resources his people have squandered –and of course, hunt down the demon. Elmes has no doubt he’ll prevail. After all, he is great like his ancestors.

But the land is already home to half-wild barbarians led by an immortal priest, who are used to weather more savage than any warrior. With a court losing confidence and a wife set on keeping the crown no matter whose head it sits on, the decisions at home prove the greater danger.

With mounting threats on all sides, Elmes wins his empire, but his arrogance leaves him cursed and trapped in the north. Without his armies, his magic, or even his own name, Elmes must face his selfishness and irresponsibility to preserve what truly matters: his young son’s life.

Note that items solely available through Kickstarter and similar platforms do not meet Goodreads criteria for addition to the database, so that's probably why your original post went unanswered.

Please double check I linked up the correct authors, and if so add "Done" to thread title (desktop site only, can't do it in mobile app).

Jacqui Davis | 7 comments Hi Gem,

Cheers! I thought it may be my mistake there. Thanks for adding the book :)

I've checked the authors and the Speaking Volumes: Dear God entry is by another Jacqui Davis. The other books there I only illustrated and didn't write.

gem | 2622 comments I've bumped that book to a different author profile. It might appear on your page for a day or so while the site updates.

The books you illustrated will still appear on your profile. If you wanted your "author/writer" profile to be separated from your "illustrator" profile, you would need to attach Sul to a different author name, such as J. Davis. It's an easy update, but it's more work for you (or Librarians) to make sure future books go to the correct profile. If you join the Goodreads Author program, you could manage both profiles more easily.

Let me know what you think. In the meantime, please add "Done" to thread title.

Jacqui Davis | 7 comments Hi Gem,

Thanks :)

And no problem r.e illustrator/author. I thought I should mention it, in case there would be any confusion but I don't mind keeping the two combined.

Cynbel (cynbelterreus) | 15 comments Hi Gem, could you point me to where in the manual where it states that Kickstarter Editions don't meet criteria and shouldn't be added?

Since the book is available in ebook form does that mean that it is valid for the Kickstarter Edition to be added as the book is publicly available. If not, is there any reason the Kickstarter Edition would not be considered out of print?

https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

As far as I can tell Goodreads strives to be a complete database of all published works. So that members can add their exact editions to their shelves. Would denying Kickstarter only books be working against that intended goal?

The policy around Kickstarter books is admittedly vague (meaning there is no official mention of it in the Librarian's Manual) but awhile back a Goodreads staff member made the decision that KS was not allowed so that's the rule I and many longtime Librarians follow.

Here's some of the reasoning I've seen mentioned in comment threads:
-- Books that you can only obtain through a subscription or registration are not allowed
-- The Kickstarter website is not on the list of valid sources for book data

More info in this thread (starting at message 26):

If you feel strongly about changing this policy, consider making a post in the "Policies & Practices" forum with the reasons you've outlined above. It would be nice to have an official ruling on it in the manual.

Because this & (Patreon) editions have been so contentious in the past & there has been a ruling it may be better to ask people to post discussions in Help or use the Contact Us link.

Cynbel (cynbelterreus) | 15 comments Oh hey, apparently it turns out that just about 2 weeks ago Goodreads finally, finally updated the policy on Kickstarter editions.

So I've finally gone ahead and added this edition. :D

It only took just over a year, but this is officially done.
