Book: Dead Bolt - Juliet Blackwell
Series: A Haunted Home Renovation Mystery, #2
Pages: 315
How it fits: #578 on Ghost list
Read: 11/11/22
Rating: ★★★
Review: Mel Turner is General Contractor on a home renovation that has malevolent spirits making it a dangerous workplace. While Mel tries to figure out what they want and how to get rid of them there are side stories involving the couple who own the house and the murder of the neighbor across the street. All seem to be connected in some way. A decent second entry in the series but not as engaging as the first. Interested to see how this series will build.

Title/Author: WOLF by Rebecca Zanetti
Series: Stopes Pack #1
Date Read: 11/16/2022
Shelf: Shelf - Urban Fantasy
Pages: 327
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review: This is the first book in a new wolf shifter series by Rebecca Zanetti. Mia has relocated her mother and aunt to a small mining town in the northwest. She is working with the local sheriff on a local case with Seth as a suspect in the murder. This town is basically owned by the mining company and Seth’s family are the leaders of the shifter community. The good: We get a new RZ series and it has a PNR/UF meets Anna Albertini tone. Liked the characters and mystery of the past contributing to the storyline. This was released on Vella as a serial and I’ve patiently waited for it to be finished and in audio. I’m a big Zanetti fan and this new series didn’t disappoint.

Team 8 has the winning shelf from last week’s UF call but still need a couple of reviews and 3 stamps for bingo, soooo we may have a chance and race for the after all… we need the ‘Autumn’ or ‘Horror’ shelf called for a speed round read off. I’ll try and pay better attention, have books pre-selected for both.

Review: This was almost a total loser for me until the climax when the characters finally seemed to grab me and it ended with a bang. I did not connect to the main character or her world. I felt no chemistry between the leads. The world was confusing and didn't draw me in. The premise in the blurb just wasn't coming together. Even the dramatic action attempted scenes fell flat. But at the climax things started to fall into place enough to make me understand where things were going and ended on a high note. So instead of giving it a 2 I upgraded it to 3 and will give the second volume a try.

Review
This series has appeared different times in this bingo, but I hadn't caught it till now, and I say I'm totally repented not having it before. It's a long of time ago that I don't laugh at a book (aside of the usual suspects, that's is), and I have done it at different points in the book. The mystery was well plotted, I think more the reasons than the culprit itself. The end leaves us with more open points that I would like they are included in future books.
