Started this morning and have read the first couple of chapters. I love her writing style and there’s plenty of magic and mystery already. I’m hooked.

End of chapter 7 and plenty to enjoy so far!
I like the relationship (view spoiler)[ between Marimar and Rey and the contrast between their world and that of Orquídea (hide spoiler)]
I loved (view spoiler)[ the scene with the family gathered outside the house as nature thwarted the human tendency towards force. But why is Orquídea turning into a plant? Some deal with the river monster from the past? (hide spoiler)]

I Finished it. 4 stars.
Was a weird great book

(view spoiler)[ Loved the relationship between Marimar and Rey. I was really shocked that when Orquidea became a tree, some family members were dying also. I love the Ghosts elements in the book, where they showed themselves and it was a great thing to know more about her life with her mom, her running away, marrying the unfaithful husband and how her son died. I love that the house was a way for the remaining family to come back and feel a sense of familiarity (hide spoiler)]

End of chapter 15. Definitely getting dark and scary now. (view spoiler)[ seems to be some Faustian style payback going on but who or what was the first husband and is the dark stranger the same person? Wondering why the curse seems to kill some members of the family or maybe it will work its way through them? And where is the dreadful Enrique? (hide spoiler)]

Finished. Weird and wonderful book, I’m glad you enjoyed it too.

(view spoiler)[ I was wrong about who the real villain was although I had suspected Bolivar earlier in the novel so that was a good twist at the end. I had guessed that the living star was Marimar’s father. Felt sorry for Mike and his gruesome grasshopper death and I was surprised about Enrique’s change of heart. Lots of surprises! (hide spoiler)]

A highly enjoyable novel that kept me gripped from start to finish!
