Tracy (tstan) | 1261 comments One of my perennial recommendations is The Houseguest and Other Stories.
I also love all of Shirley Jackson, but my favorite is We Have Always Lived in the Castle.
I’m not sure what my plans are yet, but I will try to combine Latin American Heritage and horror as much as possible- I have an ARC for the new novel by Mariana Enríquez, am currently reading Haunted, and will read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Other Stories, like I do every year.
No matter what, I try to read as much scary stuff in October as I can. It’s the only time of year I do scary.

Oh, and I’m all over Hocus Pocus! Both One and Two!

Bummer. I have 2 new books this year as teaching resources but can't add them or review them for other teachers or students.

Amy | 12915 comments Just wanted to say to the entire group, rather than on two different narrower threads, that I am in two buddy reads this month, should anyone want to join us.

#1) I am reading in this October, with LibraryCin (Cindy), the Hour of the Witch by Chris Bohjahlin, which will most definitely qualify for October Fall Flurries. Anyone is welcome to join us.

#2) I am also reading this October, the Hidden Palace by Helene Wechham (or something like that). With Sally and BooknBlues. It's the sequel to the Golem and the Jinni. It is my number five for the Trim the TBR challenge, but also happily also fits October Fall Flurries, for its monsters and fantastical creatures and sense of magic and otherworldliness. Again, we welcome you to join us for this read.

I can't say whether either of them will fit the scary tag, but you never know. But I must say, after the Lost Village, I might be happily done with scary for the month. Stick with my witches and magic and regular fun frights.

LibraryCin | 11681 comments Hi, Amy, just wanted to mention I have the book on hold. I hope it comes in for me this month! (I think it says about 2 weeks, so it should.)

ETA: Shoot! It says 4 weeks... so hopefully it will come this month. "The Lost Village", however, is 2 weeks for me. :-)

Amy | 12915 comments I may get it started sooner, only because I am going to need something in between this very unfortunate ExHex, and picking up Mad Honey, which doesn’t come out until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8414 comments Great banner, Anna. You continue to impress with your ability to get the right "feel" for each tag!

Robin P | 5742 comments I just read a review of Celeste Ng's new book, Our Missing Hearts. It's a dystopia awfully similar to real life (book censoring, anti-Asian hate, super-patriotism). Sounds very interesting and also more scary than any monster book!

message 59: by Rachel N. (new)

Rachel N. | 2237 comments Definitely a great banner Anna and I am glad to finally get My Favorite Things out of my head :-).

RachelG. I really like the eyes for this months banner!

And although one said 2 weeks and the other said 4 weeks - they both came in today! I will be able to get to it sooner than originally expected. (Along with 3 other library books, though!)

Oooooh, do it!

Phair (sphair) | 55 comments If I’m brave enough I may try to reread Hell House. It scared me to death when I read it first around date of publication, 1971. The movie version was pretty spooky as well.

Amy | 12915 comments Hooray Cindy!!! I just started it
