Let's see. We watched Reacher, Season 2. It was...diverting. Predictable, of course, but isn't everything now days? Lots of action. I think the first season was better, but I'd watch another round.

Slough Horses Season 3. Brilliant. Can't wait for--and dreading--the fourth season.

We started Murder at the End of the World, but I wasn't in the mood. I'll give it another shot later.

Monsieur Spade. P-R-E-P-O-S-T-E-R-O-U-S. Absurde!

True Detective. The SO is enjoying it. I found it offensively grisly, which is disappointing because I love Jodie Foster and was really looking forward to it.

Murder and Other Details. So far, so good. Fingers crossed!

And the most exciting thing of all -- one of my very favorite art critics/historians, Waldemar Januszczak, is on a YouTube channel called Perspective https://www.youtube.com/@PerspectiveArts

It's an absolute treasure trove of art documentaries!

Oh, shoot. Hubby and I really enjoyed the first season of True Detective with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson! I've been looking forward to watch the newest season with Jodie Foster.

Is Slough Horses the one on Apple TV+ (with Gary Oldman)? Haven't seen that one yet. Thank you for the recommendation!

Melissa | 345 comments I started Reacher season 2 but stopped to wait for all the episodes to be available. Now Prime has ads!! Ugh.

I'm watching some classic 90s sitcoms.

I watched a GREAT show called Bodies. I can’t remeber which streaming service it's on (maybe Netflix) but it's about a dead body that shows up in multiple points in history. It was VERY interesting.

We love Slow Horses. Yes, it's with Gary Oldman on Apple TV+, Johanna. We're also wary of the next season, Josh. Did any of you ever watch MI5 ( it was kind of like a blood wedding, never knowing who was on the chopping block)? :)

We're on episode 3 or 4 of Murder at the End of the World and I'm entranced, but wondering if this is going in a Glass Onion direction... I'm especially enjoying the two main actors (playing Darby and Bill).

A very interesting series with a mystery crossing time. It was adapted from Bodies, a graphic novel written Si Spencer, but the series has a rather different (much more interesting to me) take on the story. We were totally engaged.

There’s a tentative plan to get back into the original The Prisoner series with a friend of mine and her husband. We watched the first two episodes over a year ago and then her cancer treatment had us put it on hold and we just never got back to it. I’m hoping later this month will be good for us.

Luck in the Shadows! I need to get back to that series. Somehow I never marked the books as read and they're not on my GR lists at all, but I have the first 3 audiobooks and the first two ebooks. I made it mid-way+ through Book 3 (audio)... then I seem to remember the story taking an even darker turn. Not that I don't enjoy dark, but I'm guessing I needed something lighter at the time and became distracted.

I’m planning to read book one for my blog post next month, but then I’m reading the [book:Black Sun
trilogy for the August post, and others in between, so no hope of reading book two any time soon. 😆

In fact, I might not even make it back to Holmes & Moriarity anytime soon. I’ve joined a Cohousing group and I’ve got a lot of reading homework to do to learn what we need to do for that as well as all my book group books. 😂

In between Shogun episodes (we didn't realize that the series is still being realized in weekly episodes), we've been watching season 2 of The Tourist, which is one of the wackiest action-adventure series we've seen. It's very Coen Brothers in temperament, but was written and produced by two other brothers, Harry and Jack Williams (Two Brothers Pictures). It's an amnesia tale and we still have no idea who is the tourist. :)

Started Silo, which is good but maybe darker than what I'm in the mood for. But I do want to finish it.

Also started--not realizing it was going to be doled out in weekly installments--Manhunt. About the assassination of Lincoln. Or, more exactly, the hunt for John Wilkes Booth. Fascinating.

We just finished Black Snow on Acorn, which was dragged out about two episodes too long. Also I am bored to death with detectives who have tortured pasts.

Karen, we started to watch Shogun, and it seems to be beautifully done. I just couldn't take that scene with the baby.

God yes. I'm finding Tracker with Colter Shaw a great new TV show, but when I saw it was a Jeffery Deaver series I knew why I'd never read the books. I recently dnf'd books by Robert Pobi, which I wanted to read because I love the narrator of the second book. So much sadness and criticism. Is it any wonder I mostly stick to cozy mysteries lately?

Yes, impossible to not be very affected. These days we are caretakers (a 20+ hour a week commitment) for our 9 month old grandson, so I'm not sure how we kept watching after that episode.

I don't know how/why some things become a solid no-fly-zone for me and others are affecting, but I'm able to watch or read in context. I read the book a very long time ago and also watched the Richard Chambers mini-series. I'd forgotten how much the story is about how different cultures view the behavior of others as dishonorable, reprehensible, or horrific. Most of the episodes we've watched focus on Blackthorne's struggle to understand Japanese concepts of duty and honor, not realizing that the Japanese consider him to be a barbarian, and that they would likely be equally or more horrified by life in Elizabethan London.

I didn't remember that most of the characters are based in real-life historical figures.

Not to worry. The abusive father/tortured past is one of my pet peeves in crime fiction, but a pet peeve is all it is. While I consider it a trite and tired trope, a lot of writers love it, and a lot of readers/viewers seem to enjoy as well. The overall premise of the show is entertaining.

I never read the book, but I do remember watching the original series with Richard Chamberlai--and really enjoying it. And this version is so gorgeous and dramatic.

Yes, I seem to have become much, much more sensitive (over-sensitive) to various things that never used to bother me in film or TV. Which is pretty exasperating for the SO, who can pretty much watch any atrocity without blinking.

ON THE OTHER HAND, he tears up during emotional scenes a lot more often than I do.

So there. :-D

I just finished Alex's Hall's re-recording of Waiting for the Flood. Absolutely beautifully read. The Spires books are (IMO) Alexis Hall's most poetic stories (and likely my favorite AH series). This gorgeous re-recording by Will Watt includes a new novella about Marius (Edwin's ex) and a charming epilogue to both stories. Hall has been gently editing, re-recording, and adding bonus material to the whole Spires series. Don't miss these audiobooks. The updated ebooks and print books also feature lovely new covers. I also recently listened to the re-recording of Glitterland, read by the original narrator, Nicholas Boulton.

Here's Hall's blurb on revisiting this series:
"- WAITING FOR THE FLOOD is book 2 in my Spires series, with there being 6 books in total.
- Each story is loosely connected and will be about a different couple—so you can read them in any order you like. Bonus content in this new edition includes: CHASING THE LIGHT (a brand new novella about Marius), Aftermath (a short story epilogue), recipes, and author annotations.
- GLITTERLAND, FOR REAL, and PANSIES will also get the same new covers and extra content, and their rereleases will be staggered.
- After PANSIES you can expect a book for Niall & David (who appear in GLITTERLAND) and one for Dom the Dom (who you meet in FOR REAL)."

Cicadas: A Totally Ordinary Epic Love Story wasn’t perfect, but it's certainly unique.

And this one was pretty fun, if at times long winded. Prime Time Travelers (Jared Plummer vs. the Ancient World): A Whimsical Romantic MM Portal Fantasy

I'm currently re-reading Somebody Killed His Editor. There are not enough words to describe my obsession and love for this series. 😊
