Jay wrapped her arms around the trunk of the willow tree and stood in the protection of the swaying branches. She pondered what had overwhelmed her mind all morning. She knew the secret. She knew why she grew so fast. And she needed to go on a journey. She could take Jack. That would be all right. As much as she hated to admit it, she needed Jack. But not Mary. She was too weak. Sure, she'd helped them before, but she couldn't on this trip. She'd be better off with the knight.
Mary. How could she leave her behind?

After she had stood there for a moment, Jay let go of the tree, and continued her search for something to dry herself off with. Seeing nothing, she decided just to squeeze the water out of her clothes. She thought about the problems at hand, and finally came to the conclusion that it would be easier just to go by herself. That's what she would do. At least, once she had a bag to carry things in, a change of clothes, food, and water. It would take her at least a week to prepare for her journey, but she knew she had to do it.

Meanwhile at camp, Jack was settling down for a sleep. Mary was looking in her satchel. She had brought it when she had come to slay the dragon. It had thread, some food, a book, an empty journal with a lock and key, as well as a few other things. She was sewing some new outfits for her children when Jay returned to camp. "Hello, Mother." Jay smiled, her eyes sparkling.
