Author: Lao Tzu

Translator: D. C. Lau

Original language: Classical Chinese

ISBN: 9780140441314

Publisher: The Penguin Group

Publication date: 1963

Format: Paperback

Page count: 131

Description: "Whether or not Lao Tzu was a historical figure is uncertain, but the wisdom gathered under his name in the fourth century BC is central to the understanding and practice of Taoism. One of the three great religions of China, Taoism is based upon a concept of the Tao, or Way, as the universal power through which all life flows. The Tao Te Ching offers a practical model by which both the individual and society can embody this belief, encouraging modesty and self-restraint as the true path to a harmonious and balanced existence.
"D. C. Lau's translation captures the full poetic grace of the Tao Te Ching. This edition also contains a detailed introduction, a chronological table, a glossary and appendices."

sarah ౨ৎ | 46 comments NOTE: This might actually be an issue of adding an alternate cover, rather than adding an entirely new book. There already appears to be a Tao Te Ching in the system under the ISBN I provided; however, the cover doesn't match the one I have on my edition. My edition has the cover I linked in my original post. Thanks!

Javier (palchetti) | 30430 comments Alternate cover edition added. Publication date (2003) taken from abebooks, as ISBNs weren't implemented until 1969/1970 (1963 probably being the first Penguin edition).
