I have had this book for a few days and I'm still not done with it. While each story is a quick read, the subject mater is not quick to digest. I find myself thinking about many of the characters in this book quite a bit...caring about them...worrying about them...wanting the real world people these characters mirror to know that they are worth so much more than they seem to realize. I have found myself needing to take a break between stories rather than continuing on at my usual fast paced reading style. I suppose this is testament to the skill of the author...to be able to take up residency in my head like this! :-)

I finally finished this book. The tales within are very heavy, lots of sadness...and all have an undercurrent of people attempting to survive one day at a time. I just wish these characters could have had some sustained joy in their lives, but I don't know where it would have come from. That said, I love the way this author tells these tales...I especially love that each chapter is a complete story all by itself. Also, I feel that I have learned something that is uncomfortable to know.
