We will be starting Crime and Punishment on October 23.

We had 22 votes for this selection, I hope we have lively discussions.

I will be using the Pevear and Volokhonsky translation. You can find information about other translations here: https://welovetranslations.com/2020/0...

I'll be posting the background and other information as well as some information on the authority shortly.

Tom Day (tomday8) | 28 comments Hi. I've got hold of the Oliver Ready translation. Does anyone know about this version? I'm about to begin but also have the Constance Garnett version to hand so need to decide! (I suppose I could switch between the two as I go!)

Amy (bobswifeamy) | 47 comments Hello, has anyone checked LibriVox for the audiobook yet? Just wondering if there’s a preferred version - because often more than one reader will have recorded a book. TIA

I have not as yet. I usually have to start reading before I can switch over to audio or I get the characters mixed up. Although I don't think this will be as much of a problem for this book because it seems to me that much of what we are reading is what is in the main character's head.

that is a really cool website to help people choose which translation.

After three weeks of comparisons and samples, I have decided on the Nicolas Slater version.

I'm glad that helped. I love the Russians and the French writers enough that having a site that compares the translations really helps.
