Yes.

So your completion post will need to have the following information.
I typically set mine up like this -

Review: I am no longer reading this book for TART as I didn't realize it was 600 pages long. Megan Brandy typically writes incredibly detailed and emotional books so I will need to read this at a time where I can pace myself in order to take in the characters.

Review Carey Slade. Something happened in senior year that changed him for the better, but for Rowan her life just got worse. He couldn't even comprehend how his silence impacted her.

Now, at college he is failing a class. If he doesn't pass it, he will sit out the most important game of the season. A tutor is hired, and he just wants to get this entire thing over with and put behind him. Crazy though, the one girl who took the fall, just so happens to be the one hired to help him pass his final.

Session and session he finds himself more enamored by her. By her strength, by her tenacious strive to be better... he finds himself wanting to be around her without tests and textbooks. Only thing is, he needs to help convince her that he could want more than one night.

This was a sweet, almost too insta love for me sports romance. Carey was a good guy that just needed to find the one and Rowan need, no deserved to be loved and cared for. She'd been doing it alone for way too long.

Open Tasks that need decisions - Decisions/Responses added
I've updated/consolidated our responses to the open tasks below. I'll move decisions over to the longer lists in the clean task list. We can keep discussing the others as they come up. As we've all learned in TART - no decision is really final if a task is assigned and we aren't happy with our choice at the time of the assignment. Nothing is set in stone. Other than our team name for this round. That is set

1. Each player reads a book by the same author, teams decide author - no pass for this task.
These are the most suggested ones. We can chose when called?
Christina Lauren
Meghan Quinn
Penelope Douglas
Julie Garwood
Emma Hart

9. Each player reads a book in the same series, teams decide. No pass for this task.
I like all of these suggestions and have books from all on my TBR or would happily reread. We can chose now or when called?

Series with multiple authors -
1.Green Valley Library
2. Busy Bean
3. Speak Easy Taproom
4. Kings of FootballOnly 3 books in this one but by popular authors -
(This series breaks my heart and I love it all at the same time ❤️)
5. Mason Creek
6. Underworld Kings (I'm forever mourning that Amazon has eaten Maria's book and it literally killed her writing mojo.)

27. Read a minimum of 750 pages in books published in any one year prior to 2018, team picks the year.

2017 - This is consistent. I'll note this one as chosen.

29. Read over 750 pages in books about the same profession, teams decide which profession.

Sport - This one was majority so I'm going to note this one as "chosen"

33. Read 6 books in the same sub-genre, teams decide.

Paranormal or Fantasy - I actually like PNR or Fantasy for this one and we can use Contemporary again for a later task if that's okay?

49. Each teammate reads a book published in the same month and year, teams decide. No pass for this task.
No response - was Jan 2022 okay or shall we decide when/if called?

50. Read 6 books set in the same location, teams decide the location.

We had a lot of different suggestions for this one. I've listed the suggested and added the authors in my TBR or read that I could think of off of the top of my head that have or do write in these cities/states. All are of them are fine with me. We can leave this one for when it's called as well. I'm a mood reader and go with majority as well. (Horrible at making decisions)
Florida - Blue Water Billionaires series
Texas - Isla Madden Mills, Kate Stewart, some Max Monroe, LJ Shen?
LA - Kayley Loring. some Max Monroe
NY - Kayley Loring, 1 by Alley Ciz, GD Taylor series, Max Monroe Billionaire series and spin offs, Their Dr series.

51. Each teammate reads a different book by the same author, no pass for this task.
Same as above. These were the most suggested authors. I enjoy them all as well. Tink suggested using different authors for these task so we get a variety and I can see the wisdom in that as well.
We can chose now or when the task is called?

Christina Lauren
Meghan Quinn
Penelope Douglas
Julie Garwood
Emma Hart

52. Read 6 books with the same color cover, teams decide color.
Black - two votes for black
I'm away this afternoon and evening. I'll see if I can pull some lists for black covers. I believe the Uno team or other challenges have some for these

53. Each teammate reads a book set in one of your teammates' home town (born in, raised in, currently live in - all work), teams decide. No pass for this task.
No response on this one - is NYC okay?

54. Read 6 books set on a beach or in the mountains, teams decide which.
beach - 2 for beach
mountain - 1 thus far

55. Read 6 books set in the same country outside the US, teams decide country.
England - noting this as chosen

*56. As a team, pick a list with over 100 romance books on it, each member reads a book from that list. No pass for this task.
*I have some lists from Listopia under this task already - but they aren't set unless we are all happy with the choices

58. Read 6 books published in the year one of the teammates joined RRRC, teams decide which teammate.
2022 for Carolyn - noting this as chosen

64. Read 6 books not set on a continent of a teammate. Space does not count - must be a real continent.
No responses on this one. Is Oceania an okay choice? We have South America, Asia, and Africa also open to us

70. Read a minimum of 1200 pages in books of the same sub-genre, but by different authors.
Contemporary using this sub genre here as we will use PNR or Fantasy for the task above if this is agreeable?

71. Pick another team and each member reads one book that was read by a member for this challenge. No pass for this task.
Assuming we will select the team if/when this task is called

72. Read 4 books published in the decade of a teammate's birth, team decides which teammate.
Carolyn - 1990s Will note this as "chosen"

73. Read a minimum of 1500 pages in books by the same author, teams decide author.

Same as above. I like these suggested authors. I haven't read too many Emma Hart books. I'm addicted to the other two ladies however.
Sarina Bowen
Ilsa Madden-Mills
Emma Hart

75. Read over 1000 pages in books that start with the same letter (no articles), teams decide letter.
S or T - will note these are our two chosen choices

76. Read 6 books with a specific item on the cover, team selects item.

Shirt Most suggested so I will be noting this as chosen.

79. Read 6 books that have the same romance trope, teams decide which trope.

Enemies to lovers most suggested so noting it as chosen.

80. Read 4 books initially published in different decades.

1990, 2000, 2010, 2020 most suggested noting it as chosen

82. Each teammate reads a different book from the same series.
I'm going to keep these series as the list we can decide from when called if that's okay. They all look good. Kings I love, but we all have to read a different book so I couldn't keep that one. I popped Pucked back in as that was one M suggested. If we would like a multi author series my other two are numbers 5 (4 different authors) and 6 (2 authors)

1.Green Valley Library
2. Busy Bean
3. Speak Easy Taproom
4. Pucked
5. Blue Water Billionaires
6. Bootleg Springs

88. Read 6 books with a boat, plane, car or motorcycle on the cover, teams decide which.
car - two votes noting as chosen

90. Each member reads a book published in sequential months, i.e. June, July, August and September 2019. Teams decide which months. No pass for this task.

Tink suggested a year other than 2022 would be good and after going through this list I would agree. Perhaps we agree to a year first and then we can find books either on a list or our TBRs that would fit the year? I know I have books from 2019 through this year on my TBR that I need to catch up on.

92. Read over 1500 pages in books set in the future or the past - teams decide.
Future - two votes I'll note as chosen

94. Read 6 books published in sequential years, teams decide years.

2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 2021 was the furthest the suggested stretched out to. I'll note this time span as our choice of years and we can narrow if/when the task is called.

95. As a team, select an animal. Read 8 books tagged with that animal.
Dog - three votes I'll note as chosen

96. Read a minimum of 1200 pages with the sun or the moon on the cover, teams decide which.
Moon I'll note as chosen.

I just found out that I'm going to be away unexpectedly this evening. My husband's boss had tickets to a baseball game tonight that he gave my husband. So we've got to head out in an hour in order to make the game.

I have our current completion comments listed in the message above. When Carolyn posts hers, if I'm not back, would someone be able to post our completion message over to the Q&A thread for MKat please?

MKat will just need to the info in Msg 59 above. You can copy and paste what I have directly into the Q&A thread for TART. You'll just need to update Carolyn's Msg to the correct #

We'll be back late tonight so if our new task is posted this evening I can jump right tomorrow morning.

Thanks all! Sorry to run out like this.

I’ve never read a book by Emma Hart but if you both have her on you list as an author you want to pick than I’m totally fine trying out a book by them!

message 73: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Robinson (librariansdaughter77) | 1485 comments Emma works for me this time as well. I think I have one of her Introvert books on my list or purchased.

M - I know you like mafia and darker reads. Julie Garwood has an FBI series that I really like. Or, I guess it's a bunch of different law enforcement like people. It's the Buchanan family and they are contemporary written in the mid 90s like. It's Heartbreaker
Killjoy - not related to this book, however David Tenant playing Killjoy in Jessica Jones was the freakiest thing I have ever watched and it ruined David for me.
Wired

I forgot to note that she writes more than historicals when I left her on the list.

Carolyn I'm amazed you have time to read! A few of my friends are teachers. I know my 1st grade teacher friend saves all her reading up for breaks and summers. The high school teacher quilts and is into gardens and horticulture so reading for her is very targeted and focused. I'm an ex theater/drama kid so I know the work that goes into musicals as well. Thanks for reading with us!

Tink I know it's after midnight your time now. Sorry to pop on so late for you. I typically have a better schedule Mon - Fri and I'm an insomniac on top of it. I'll be better about logging on earlier in my day.

We love baseball as well. We haven't been to see a game live since 2019, so it was a ton of fun. It was in Boston - even though we're New York fans. Which is typically hard to explain but since COVID.....😂🤷 a ball park is a ball park is a ball game.

We haven't been to either NYC or Boston since the very end of 2019 so this was such a fun trip for us. The kids loved it. My son gets horrified whenever his Dad and I sing Neil Diamond which makes it even better for us. And the rest of my family ARE Boston fans so when I sent them photos of where we were my Mom was texting me not nice things all evening 😂😂😂😂

Yesterday and today have been eaten up with youth soccer though. The son still is playing in his travel league and they've had double games of friendlies and league play. The daughter dropped playing but now coaches minis over at the summer camp she was a counselor for this year. To quote "the kindergartners are soooooooo cute when they try to dribble and pass 😍😍"

Don't your guys play baseball? Do you have a fall ball league going now?

I'm not worried about winning either. I'm actually trying to cut down on my never ending TBR

(even though I JUST signed up for another round of MnG 🤦‍♀️ My carryovers are ridiculous)

But yes, after this task I think it would be a good idea to chose our series and authors for the future tasks. I didn't realize what Carolyn does for work. And I know that we all have a lot of divergent tastes.

I do like the ideas of the Busy Bean and Taproom a bit more as they have a lot of different authors to them. We can continue to discuss that as this current task winds down.

My family is - interesting. I used to be a project manager for years and I had really large crazy projects. I actually quit the last week of 2019. I'm mostly writing these days (when the kids aren't filling my time with their antics) and my husband is still a project manager. Other than where to eat for dinner it's typically a decisive household. With a LOT of opinions. And crazy conversations. We've had more than a few teachers and guidance counselors ask if they could come over for dinner just to listen in to dinner conversations. Purely based on what comes out of the kids mouths in school.

Carolyn I sincerely hope you don't have kids like mine in your class or if you do, those parents shower you with chocolates and other gifts of "I'M SO VERY SORRY I DECIDED TO HAVE KIDS" I still owe my daughter's math teacher beer from the stunt she pulled at his final last year. 🙄

Reading though - I'm very much a "what looks good to me today" person. And I read multiple books at a time. I have completely uncontrolled Adult ADHD which is not always fun for those around me.

I also know I have a huge personality and I can be very quick to decide and go - so PLEASE everyone tell me to shut my mouth, stop and listen!
And don't let me make all and every decision. Those have always been my worst traits.
Remind me when they get out of control. Please.

Review: This one is a 3.5 as it is loads better than the other Emma book I've read. This series has some meat to it, has some actual weight to the female characters and her guys aren't completely making me want to throw my kindle against a wall. I liked that she took a female from a years long abusive relationship and broke her out of it. I was NOT in any way at all happy that after doing so, after giving this character amazing growth, an actual coming of age and into ones own she then decided that the female character would be fine with "just a restraining order so they could move on with their lives" yeeeahhhhh. Not with the rest of the stuff you wrote for her chickadee. That ending was rushed, horrifying, and an extreme disservice to your character as well as your reader. Ms. Hart needs to find a new editor and pronto. Three stars for writing a female character who grew in strength and persona and didn't let the big bad bossy males push her around. .5 stars for accurately detailing the horrors of a physically abusive relationship. Zero stars for the ending. Annoyance and negative stars for myself as a reader as I want to follow up with the twins' stories and I really want to see what Ms. Hart does to her spit fire 2yo character (whose vocabulary switches between an upper level 3 and a low level 2)

I thought I was in a bad mood or that I had picked a book where the character was so drastically different from myself that I rated it harshly. Seeing your comments though, I feel better about my thoughts on her Introverts Guide book that I had read.

Weird, the randomizer is giving you tasks in order... I'm sure that can't continue, right?!

Yes - but not because we just had to read the same author. It's because of my Meet and Greet TBR issues I need to clear books off of that list🤣🤣

I've found that just my presence can cause any sort of weird disruption and chaos. So - never say never?

Review This was pretty good. New to me author and I don't usually read lighter romances. I enjoyed the banter and whimsy feeling of these characters. They were endearing.

Okay-ish. One of the kids brought home the stomach flu Wednesday. Which I haven't had since they were in elementary school. It's been sooooo much not fun. I finally finished my book today though! I'm sorry I disappeared on you all.

Review:I liked this one. It's a bit different for Maya Hughes. The athletes don't have it all, there is more coach drama and hidden layers to the guys themselves. A lot of this book dealt with some serious issues that Kemba Walker brought media attention to the last time the UConn Men's Basketball team won the National Tournament. Athletic Scholarships do NOT cover enough and student athletes are starving and poor. It also highlighted a lot of coaching issues that highly respected yet utterly toxic famous coaches at the highest college level have. Bobby Knight with his on court temper tantrums was mentioned and brought to light. (I live in Connecticut, so I grew up in the land of College Basketball and Hockey with an occasional glimmer of hope on the Football field) I also appreciated the look into the dynamics of the President of the overall University vs the Coaches of some of the most student drawing sports and how this is a delicate balance. Don't get me wrong - as a romance and character wise this book ticks all of the boxes. Perfect set up for an interesting and long series. Impressive side characters. More than just dumb jocks and more than just the pretty girls next door. These are smart, driven, and focused new adults. Found family and bonds trump all. It's all pure Maya Hughes and runs deeper in this series than it did even in the Rittenhouse guys. What I truly loved about this one was WHERE she took her story. She set it against the adult issues in a highly competitive large university for both sports AND academic based programs. It's a massive balancing act that no one but the students on campus typically get to see - and it's usually just those who are either an athlete or in one of the degree fields which is "one the bubble" for funding and national attention. The only things she didn't cover is the grant work that the degree fields bring in and the money the schools at this level receive for conference, bowl, and national tournament games. Instead she made it a booster issue. It's not at that level. Story wise - slow burn, good blow up, proper resolution for the couple and the team. Not satisfied with the adult/child relationship with Leona and her dad. Nor am I happy where Maya left Leona and her mum. Nor am I happy with the president/coach interpersonal issues. First book though. And she has 4 more guys to write and at least two more women to pair off - there's time to fix these issues.
