Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8447 comments Okay, I know it's already Wednesday but my life is just crazy busy right now.

I'll be off line for a couple of days ... as soon as I post this, that is.

My best friend is having hip-replacement surgery ... and I'm her designated medical power of attorney. So once I get done with my own MD appts today (routine .. no problem), I'm off to her house in another county to spend the night. And then we drive to the hospital at O-dark-thirty tomorrow. I'll be with her at least until Friday, and longer if she needs me.

I loaded up my MP3 player with three audiobooks plus have two other books with me and a stack of kakuro (cross-sums) puzzle books to keep me entertained during all that wait time.

Later this month, another friend is having knee-replacement surgery, and once again, I'll be on hospital duty.

So, what's new with you?

Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments I haven't been in a Kaffeeklatsch in a while, which reminds me ... I saw reference to a kaffeeklatsch in a book recently!! Was it When Women Were Dragons? I can't recall. I bookmarked it but I can't imagine I will find the reference now :( It was one of those exciting times you see a word or reference you just learned about being used.

Good luck to your friend and her surgery!

Nothing new here. Just gearing up for Halloween. House was decorated September 1st and I am in full on spooky mode. Started Ratman's Notebooks last night and had nightmares, life it wonderful 😻

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12653 comments @ Meli, I think it was in WWWD, because I remember seeing it recently too.

Nothing good is going on here, so I won't talk about it-😅

message 4: by Theresa (last edited Sep 07, 2022 10:55AM) (new)

Theresa | 15675 comments @Meli and JoAnne - I do believe it was WWWD as I remember it too and laughed out loud. I'll check my Kindle Highlights to see if I marked it.

It's September and the courta have all reopened and are scheduling in person oral arguments and appearances again. I am Legal Team Leader on multiple complex litigations involving different clients of mine so all is rocking and rolling here. At least cases are moving forward again.

So I am busy with work. I am trying to cath up on a lot of personal stuff as well - I finally found time for a haircut last week! I was so overdue. Need to deal with some housekeeping, repairs, replacing my sofa, that sort of thing. Oh, and chasing after clients who owe me fees. They don't teach you about that in law school.

I will be very happy when I no longer need to run the A/C at all! Here in NYC even if the temps are lower and tolerable, there is no breeze and very high humidity. I end up running it for a bit every day to pull the humidity out of the apartment. That's what hurricane season is like in NYC: Ridiculous humidity levels.

Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments Thanks for the confirmation, Ladies.

@Joanne - I hope it is nothing too serious :(

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12653 comments Thanks Meli, looking like another surgery, depending on the next test results (when they literally stick a dozen needles in my neck and hook me up to an electric current😮)-see why I don't want to talk about it😂

Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments Sending happy thoughts and good vibes your way!

~*Kim*~ (greenclovers75) We have moved and are getting settled. I got to see some friends and my daughter on Monday (even though she was working). I'm going back tomorrow to spend the full day with my daughter.
Spent 3 hours at Firestone today having my tires checked, which turned out to be a good thing because my oil was low. They topped it off for free, which was a bonus. Got a bit of reading done while I was waiting, but I'm still struggling with my current read.
Didn't get to eat until nearly 2pm, though, and now I need a nap. LOL!

Joanne, I can see why you're bummed. As always, I hope things turn out well for you.

Make sure they put back the Sassy they removed last time!

Theresa | 15675 comments @Tessa - you are a good friend. I have been in your shoes and will be again. I take reading material, download music onto my phone, phone charger, crossword puzzles, plenty of beverages, and a cross stitch project. I always seem to be sitting there far longer than promised.

@Kim - sounds like you are settling in well.

@Meli - you sound like my sister - she's already decorating for Halloween, one of her favorite holidays.

I have a friend who makes gorgeous silver jewelry and needlework accessories like needleminders, all quite reasonably priced. She has an Etsy shop, consigns to gift shops like the Nora Roberts connected shop in Boonesboro, and sets up sales tables at events in the MidAtlantic States. She LOVES Halloween and much of her best work reflects that. She also uses repurposed materials - the silver used is reclaimed, for example. At one point she was making earings and necklaces uses beads and such from rosaries which she inherited inventory from her grandfather when he died - he ran a rosary-making business. Michelle Ink Designs - here is link to her Etsy shop. https://www.etsy.com/shop/MichelleInk...

She's also on Facebook where she promotes new work and where she will be selling: https://www.facebook.com/MichelleInkD...

Halloween is Michelle's favorite holiday and she too decorates!

Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments @Theresa - oh wow, such beautiful things! I gave it just a quick browse, since I am about to head out, but as you said reasonably priced. I might have to treat myself.

@Kim - I was recently getting oil change, tire rotation and alignment and some other things came up so I ended up being at the shop for 4 hours! But luckily I had nowhere to be and I had a good book :)

Meli - she also will customize or do custom - sends you photos by email of mold design options, color for beads, etc. Do check out her FB page as I believe there is info on her process. I often do my Christmas shopping from her.

LibraryCin | 11727 comments Super busy time of year for me (for work, and it spills over into my personal life due to having to work in person more - long commute eats into my time).

August already felt busy, but September already feels busier. At work daily this week and next as it is the beginning of term.

message 15: by KateNZ (new)

KateNZ | 4104 comments All the best JoAnne! I am sulking badly enough after tripping over and breaking my wrist (a minor break, fortunately). It was particularly inconvenient as it happened when I was in charge of a lively three and a half year old for five days … But at least it is a short term annoyance not relentless pain.

The up-side of the whole thing was that Little Miss and I turned it into an Educational Experience. I dug out old hand X-ray images that I had on file so she could learn about X-rays. She has demonstrated to anyone who would listen - by pointing to my undamaged right hand - exactly which bone Nana had broken. She has decorated my plaster cast with a variety of colours but predominantly blood red (which made several of my work colleagues do a total double-take today). I was trying to teach her to say ‘zombie apocalypse’ (which is what it looks like) but we settled for ‘bloodbath’, which made her giggle. The sight of a small person skipping up and down chanting ‘bloodbath, bloodbath’ is truly a sight to behold. Meli, she is going to be a kindred soul I think. And best of all she had brought her doctor’s kit with her when she came to visit, so I have been injected, given imaginary pills to join the non-imaginary ones, had my heart checked with the stethoscope, blood pressure taken, and ears, eyes and throat closely monitored. She has pronounced me healthy apart from the wrist so there’s no excuse for not coming to play on the floor Nana … Excuse me …

message 16: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15675 comments Oh Kate! The best medicine truly to counter a broken wrist!

message 17: by Holly R W (new)

Holly R W | 3141 comments @Kate - I hope your wrist heals quickly. I can picture Little Miss enjoying her doctor's kit with you. And your comment about showing her X-ray images brought to my mind a memory from years ago - My next door neighbor was a secretary for a radiologist. Every Halloween (I don't know if you have a similar holiday in your country), she would hang a life-size series of X-rays of the human skeleton fully lit up in her window for the neighborhood kids to see. It was fun!

Oh Kate, the tales of your little Flo always make me smile-Thank you for sharing. She will be a fine, strong woman when the time comes! However, sorry to hear about your fall and hoping you heal quickly!

That is a hilarious site to imagine!
I thought the same thing... hope she keeps up this delightfully macabre disposition 😂

She really needs to work on "zombie apocalypse" though :P

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8447 comments I'm sprung from hospital duty early ... due to my friend testing positive for COVID! But the hip replacement had already happened and I just spoke to her and she's doing splendidly. As of now still planning to drive her home from the hospital, assuming they spring her tomorrow.

@ Joanne ... definitely make them put the sassy back! They should never have removed it!

@Kate NZ ... Well, a 3-year-old skipping along yelling "bloodbath" is bound to speed the healing of the wrist! Not to mention her careful ministrations with her trusty doctor bag.... Laughter IS the best medicine.

message 22: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12653 comments @ Kate-I forgot to ask-How did Mum and Dad about "bloodbath" being the new favorite word?😮

message 23: by KateNZ (new)

"A is at Versailles, France"
A: Learned a new word in French .... fiancé
Photo ... her hand, sporting "the ring" against her fiancé's chest and his big smiling face!

We are all very happy for them.
(No he is not French ... they both live in Texas and are on a whirlwind European holiday for two weeks ... so far have done London and Paris, and are now in Belgium ... headed for Amsterdam tomorrow, and back to the USA on Wednesday or Thursday. )

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8447 comments Her parents and younger sister were in on it. He had come to my brother and sis-in-law in advance to tell them he was going to ask her to marry him. And he invited little sister along to help pick the ring! So they were all struggling to keep it quiet until the official announcement!

Robin P | 5826 comments Hard to top Versailles as a glitzy location!

My nephew in the Chicago area proposed to his now wife at Wrigley Field, since she and her family are Cubs fans. It had to be true love because he is a lifelong White Sox fan. They now have twin boys who are 1 1/2 and decided they will have to split up the team loyalties.

Sallys | 694 comments I just started a new teaching job. Its very different than my old school so it's stressful- lots to learn and adjust to including a 90 minute commute . I really needed a change though and it required pushing myself out of my comfort zone.

message 35: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12653 comments Good luck with the new job Sallys-sometimes stepping out of your box is the best thing you can do for yourself-Have a great school year!

On the commute - more reading time either zudio or print!

Best of luck in the new job, Sally!

message 37: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12953 comments I have been pretty busy. Both exhausted and gallivanting. It's been a very full summer going into a very full year. I am filled with gratitude for the kinds of experiences and connections I have been given these last months. All is good. I can barely keep up with my own life, and I feel that has been a blessing.

I'm taking on some new patients right now, starting to plan the bar mitzvah, and certainly have begun the 2022-2023 bar/bat mitzvah tour of this years seventh grade. Meanwhile, we have finished Season 8 of the Flash, and re-watching Season Two of Stargirl, in anticipations of Season's 9 and 3. Stargirl Three has already begun. Today we start Harry Potter 7.

Right now, my middle son is writing college essays and supplements, and my sweet go getter dynamic loving son has been replaced by an arrogant teenager for whom respect and appreciation is an afterthought.

My oldest is doing well in school. He's having a good time. We can tell by his refusal to reach out to us in any way and brief one word answers. He however, is quite loving and grateful when he gets around to acknowledging us.

My husband and I had a renaissance this summer, and are just trying to keep up with the new hectic pace of this time. All is otherwise well in Fr..... land.

I have been following everyone else's updates. The wonderful, the heartbreaking, and the in-between, the sacred ordinary. I don't always get the chance to thoughtfully write, but I wanted you guys to know that you are a kind of a home to me, and I am always holding you in my heart and sending you love.
