The Academy For Mythical Creatures discussion

"そうですか means "really?" Did you have to call me an overgrown chipmunk, though?" Yuri said, laughing.

“OKAYYY it wasn’t DIRECT but I learned it so I could offend an old bully of mine back when I was only seven years.” He shied a smile, shrugging casually.

Jay shook his head. “No. They were only human, even though I let them trample on me. Partially the reason why I..” He looked away with a sigh. “Use humor to cope with everything that happens in all situations, I guess?...”

“That’s true. Haha, beat that, Keth!” Jay fist bumped the air before he got shushed by someone nearby. After that he slumped and forced down a smile, even though he was beginning to snicker at his antiques and failed frown.

He sent her a small smile in return, which then turned into a shocked face. “Wait, there’s no plurals?” Jay looked….quite bewildered. “WhAt?!”

“Now that,” Jay started, pointing at Yuri. “Is absolute whack and I don’t believe it one bit and you have to prove it to me before I go around yelling ‘the antman’ in Japanese.”

“Okay, now that’s…” Jay zoned out, thinking. “Actually….kind of cool. ねこ.” He paused before repeating it a bunch of times, occasionally writing it in the air. “ ねこ. ねこ. ねこ. ねこ. ねこ.”

“Ma’am, yes, ma’am!” Jay saluted to Yuri. “Mongolian Dragon it is! We could start off easy, or we could start jibber-jabber and break your mind. The pathway, is yours to choose.” He bowed, extending one arm out while the other clamped around his furred chest.

“Alrighty, you got it. Okay, so-“ Jay began. “For Mongolian Dragon, it’s a bunch of chirps and chitters. Words like ‘cat’ and ‘cake’, you add a hissing sound for the c, like an s.”

“Yeah. It’s weird, but then once you get the flow of it, you don’t even realize what you’re saying yourself.” Jay nodded, and then for example, spoke a whole darn sentence in that silly little dragon language.
“Zrrr crat zzs gggrrzzziiisss zrrr grrrzzzd.” He said, his z’s imperiously like that of an emphasized s, while all other sounds were growls. There was a ‘chirup’ in the last word, however. “I just said: The cat is crossing the road. You can make your hisses as long as you’d like, but the growls have to strictly be singular and you have to tap your tongue against the roof of your mouth. Like…you’re playing trumpet or trombone, for example.”

Jay could see her taking notes of things, both mentally and actually on paper. He admired that — how she listened to him talk, when he could ramble on and on for hours. Smiling to himself, he thought about another girl he knew who attended this school. But he quickly shoved that thought out of mind. “Next thing you’ll want to know, is that because it’s dragon language and Mongolian Dragons haven’t been known to write on scrolls, is that you’ll never need to learn how to write the language. You also don’t have to stop. Run-on sentences are apparent in Mongolian Dragon, I guess?” He chuckled.
Yuri looked up at Jay. "Good to know" she said, smiling. "I just like to take notes so I remember things easier" she said.

Jay grinned from eye to eye. “Yeah, notes are good to take. I could never. Like, especially English!” He shook as though the mere thought of the subject horrified him. “So, the alphabet is what we’ll do next. Want to start that now or later on some other day?” He asked, waiting for her choice to be made.
"I know! When I first started learning English, I had a hard time memorizing grammar and speaking. I could read fine, but writing and speaking... that was a whole process" Yuri said laughing. "How about I learn the alphabet today?" said, going back to the subject.

Jay looked away, sneezing, before he turned back to Yuri. “I think I may be allergic to English.” He sniffled. “But anyways, yes- okay- alphabet- Mind if I use your pencil? I promise I won’t break it-“ He added urgently at the end.

The ginger heaved a thankful sigh of relief and started writing down each letter of the alphabet in Mongolian Dragon with the English version of the letter in parenthesis around it. Then he spelled out simple words at the bottom of the page that included some of these letters, and under it the pronunciation. For someone as silly and not-serious-at-all, his handwriting was actually….really good. Kind of cursive, but not actually. Then Jay set the pencil down, proud he hadn’t snapped it in half.

“Yep! The letter O, though it’s the easiest to write in most languages-“ Jay pointed to the distinct letter. “Is actually one of the hardest to write, and the pronunciation is actually ‘stz’. Weird, right?” He looked at her, reading Yuri’s expressions.

“Definitely S. It’s just ‘ss’ like in ‘hiss’.” Jay said, pointing to the S on the page with the pronunciation below it. The S looked like an M mixed with a Z in the English alphabet. “Most of the letters in the alphabet aren’t even here, anyways. It’s only Z, S, O, N, T, F, G, H, and R. Maybe X.”

“Yep! And then you can say that you can talk to dragons!” Jay said excitedly, euphoria filling his tone. His joy seemed to almost never dim. “Well, I think that’s enough for today. What’cha think?” He tilted his head like a curious animal, one of his ram horns touching the table.

Jay agreed with a hum, prancing about in circles. “I meeeaaan, where we go is up to you.” He said after thinking for a moment. “But the smell of paper is getting to my nose now that we’ve been here for a while.”

“Maybe.” Jay nodded a bit glumly when he said his next line. “Or we could just head to class, which would be excruciatingly boring, which means no probably.”

“Uhhhhh..” Jay thought for a second, leaning on the table. “Right now I should be heading to…English, since break is about to end.” Jay looked over at her. “What about you?”
"My next class is history" Yuri said.

Jay nodded, sighing. “Okaaaay….great. Uh- what about next period?”
"After history, then it's science" Yuri said.

“SAME!” He blurted, before getting shushed quite loudly. He covered his mouth while having a hopeless, sheepy grin while he was at it. “Guess I’ll see you in Science class, then.”

Jay merrily pranced alongside her before patting her on the head. “Cya Yuri!” He grinned, fist-bumping her randomly before quickly trotting off into the halls and into english.

Ash leafed through the pages of a few books, taking her time going through the biographies section of the library. She was trying to find something to read to occupy her time, but so far nothing was catching her interest. Her attention turned to the other occupants of the library, but most of them were studying, reading, or browsing the shelves.
((Sorry this is short! I'm a little lacking in inspiration presently.))
((It's all good!))
