Simon Lewis has been a human and a vampire, and now he is becoming a Shadowhunter. But the events of City of Heavenly Fire left him stripped of his memories, and Simon isn’t sure who he is anymore. He knows he was friends with Clary, and that he convinced the total goddess Isabelle Lightwood to go out with him…but he doesn’t know how. And when Clary and Isabelle look at him, expecting him to be a man he doesn’t remember…Simon can’t take it.

So when the Shadowhunter Academy reopens, Simon throws himself into this new world of demon-hunting, determined to find himself again. His new self. Whomever this new Simon might be.

But the Academy is a Shadowhunter institution, which means it has some problems. Like the fact that non-Shadowhunter students have to live in the basement. And that differences—like being a former vampire—are greatly looked down upon. At least Simon is trained in weaponry—even if it’s only from hours of playing D&D.

I really loved seeing Will, Tessa, and Jem again. And a story about Jack the Ripper!

Aww, Matthew is just misunderstood. I am glad that he and James had a talk and saw other sides of each other.

(view spoiler)[It’s really interesting getting things from Robert’s point of view from back in the day. Especially his thoughts on Maryse and love and how his thoughts were hesitant even back then. Maybe he made a mistake when he married her? Because he certainly had doubts.

Wow, I didn’t know that Robert almost didn’t become a Shadowhunter because his skin almost didn’t accept the marks. It is awful that his parents basically would have rather had him dead than live like a mundane.

Ugh, Valentine was such a monster. I am disappointed that Robert helped him with that werewolf.

Oh lord, no. Michael is in love with Robert and Robert just rejected him in the worst way.

I’m so proud of Simon that he passed the test when everyone else except Julie failed.

So glad that Simon and Isabelle talked at the end. Even if things aren’t super clear or the same as before at least they are on better terms with each other and trying to work towards something meaningful between them. (hide spoiler)]

Aww, poor Mark. The Shadowhunters abandoned him and he was hopeful that Simon was there to rescue him. The things that he said, especially about his siblings, was so heartwrenching.

Simon is such a nerd. I love it.

(view spoiler)[I think this is one of my favorite stories. I am glad that Jem, Magnus, Tessa, and Caterina helped Clary and Simon realize that they should be parabatai. They will probably be the best parabatai because they have such a close bond.

It was sad to see what Simon noticed but couldn’t put his finger on. That Julian and Emma’s love was more than friendship. It was subtle but obvious at the same time. (hide spoiler)]

Haha, Simon walked in on Alec and Magnus in bed. That’s so great. I don’t think that will improve the relationship between Simon and Alec.

All of the Lightwoods, Jace, and Clary descending on their suite because of the baby was the best scene ever.

I think that it’s kind of beautiful that Magnus told Alec that he didn’t want to marry him until they could get married in gold like Shadowhunters do. Because he thought that Alec deserved nothing less than a ceremony that everyone wouldn’t look down on because of Magnus being a downworlder. It also says a lot about them that Alec is the only person that has ever wanted to marry Magnus out of the numerous lovers that he has had in his long life.

I am glad that Simon cleared the air with Alec.

The Lost Herondale (view spoiler)[ I remember really liking this one the first time I read it. I don’t know what it is, but I just did not love this one this time around. I’m wondering if I just don’t love the narrator. I might have to switch to the physical book for this. I still find it sad how Simon is thinking of Clary as a stranger. (hide spoiler)]
