25.6 - MegSCL's Task: Bookish Podcasts

Although it takes time away from audio books, I have been listening to a lot of bookish podcasts and growing my TBR. This task relates to some of my favourites. Choose two options and read one book for each.
Required: State the option.

Option 1: ABC Radio National Bookshelf https://www.abc.net.au/radionational/...
and The Book Show https://www.abc.net.au/radionational/....
These are great podcasts to hear about new releases, especially Australian ones.

Read a book first published in the past year (on or after September 1st, 2021) written by an Australian author. An Australian author is one who has ever lived in Australia.
Required: Include a reference to the author's Australian status if not specified on goodreads.

Option 2: The Book Club Review. https://www.thebookclubreview.co.uk
Reviews books in a book club format.

Read a book shelved on the first 10 pages of Book club Books
Required: State the page number.

Option 3: Currently Reading. https://www.currentlyreadingpodcast.com
Discusses a range of books the podcasters are currently reading.

Read a book that another SRC member had begun to read, is reading, or has finished reading between August 25, 2022 and September 1, 2022 inclusive.
To set shelf settings- Navigate to a player's profile.
Click Bookshelves
Click Settings to the right of the shelf search box (next to compaare books)
Select checkbox for date started
close
Sort by date started descending or date read descending
For example, you can read a book they started Aug 20 and finished Aug 28, or that they read from Aug 31 - Sep 2. Use the dates to determine suitability for this task, ignore shelf tags.
Required: State the SRC member and the date(s) they read the book.

Option 4: Women’s prize for fiction podcast. https://womensprizeforfiction.co.uk/f...
Discusses books by women with various guests.
Read a book that has been longlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction 2013 to the present.

Andy Plonka (plonkaac) | 4207 comments For option 1 I hope you mean that the book must have first publication date was September 1 2021 or later, not that the author 's first published book was after this date. I haven't read that many Australian authors and finding one just beginning her/his career would require a bit of searching.
Thanks,
Andy

Meg (megscl) | 2514 comments it's any book published for the first time in the past year. doesn't matter if it's a debut or not

Meg (megscl) | 2514 comments and I can reword the task to make sure that's clear, thanks!

Thanks, I was pretty sure that was the case, but I've been burned before.
Andy

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) For option 4--Read a book that has been longlisted

Some of the books have this-- "Women's Prize for Fiction Nominee (2013)"

some have this--"Women's Prize for Fiction Nominee for Longlist (2013)"

some have this-- "Women's Prize for Fiction Nominee for Shortlist (2022)"

Are we only able to use the ones that say "Longlist" or is it any book from the enitre list?

Meg (megscl) | 2514 comments nominee is fine too

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Meg wrote: "nominee is fine too"

But what if is states the book was shortlisted? Will it still work? or just the ones that state it was longlisted?

The task specifically states longlisted but some of the books on the list are shortlisted.

message 15: by Meg (new)

Meg (megscl) | 2514 comments Yes, to be shortlisted a book has to already have been longlisted

Meg (megscl) | 2514 comments And winner also works!

Ok thanks! I'm not familiar with all the book awards and short/long listing so wanted to make sure before I selected something : )
