Bethany Tomerlin Prince (bethanytomerlinprince) | 52 comments Hi,
I find book metadata really fun. I have helped four authors choose their keywords and categories using the Publisher Rocket Software.

If you are struggling with your Amazon metadata, then send me a PM I will take I crack at it for Free. ( I gain experience, and as I said, I find it fun) .

Please note my only experience is with other authors I connected with on the internet and the articles I have read.

Dana Christy | 52 comments Hi Bethany,

I'm interested to know exactly how the METadata helps book sales?

I've read some articles on it, but by changing keywords... do authors really get more sales??

Bethany Tomerlin Prince (bethanytomerlinprince) | 52 comments So Metadata helps in two key ways 1).Training Amazon which books should be considered similar to yours 2). Possibly helping with organic search traffic in visibility

The first is useful for things like Also Boughts or Ad relevancy
It provides you with a free way to make sure that your book is grouped with the most accurate comparables.

You need a baseline level of sales to see the advantages of it which Metadata doesn't provide.

2). In terms of Organic Search Visability. It really depends on your audience and your sub sub genre.

The glory days where just finding the right category or keyword could find you an audience are over. (The market is too crowded for that). However, there is a reason why a lot of those early success stories were in the Sci Fi genre being able to sub select between Space Marines and Alien invasion stories was ground breaking. It gave more power to what readers were looking for than what worked for the book seller.

Organic Search Visability provided through Metadata optimization can still you a boost if a part of your audience is composed of power readers with very specific sub genre structures that churn through content at a very fast pace and our constantly on the lookout for new content.

If you read 2 shifter paranormal romances a week, then it doesn't take you long to burn through the trad offerings.

There is probably a strong correlation between the genres Kindle Unlimited does well in and where organic search visibility from Metadata gets the biggest boost because the method of reading is the same focusing on the what not the who.

Literary Fiction probably wouldn't get as much of a boost as readers are using intrigued by a specific story rather than genre conventions.

One of the points of the Publisher Rocket software is to help you identify keywords that people are searching for but have lower competition.

Sometimes because of the different ways computers think than humans there can be little pockets of opportunity.

For example I was looking at the key word billionaire romance and found that billionaire romance with babies is a much more popular amoungst Amazon users than billionaire romance with secret child. Even though functionally they are the same thing. That's where the Publisher Rocket software shines is identifying these variances in keyword popularity. (Also it allows you to search Amazons 16,000 book categories to find all sorts of sub, sub sub categories you didn't know existed)

So to summarize:
1). Teaching Amazon to recognize your true comparables is always useful but requires a baseline level of sales to result in more sales

2). Metadata can help with organic search Visability but the utility of that varies widely depending on what you write and who your audience is.

Disclaimer: I am no expert.I just read a lot of articles mostly from Kindlepreneur. Also, I haven't published yet so I can't present you with before and after numbers

Dana Christy | 52 comments WOW!
Thank you for all the info...

So I write romance suspense novels with Strong female or females that survive tragedy/abuse and find real love.

I guess the metadata stuff may help people find my particular niche of writing.
Right now I only have 2 published books up on amazon. I've been very slow and cautious about putting out my other novels that are written.
