One wonders how, since the neighbors allegedly tried to keep the child away from the mother, she was able to have the daughter alone with her. The article says the father had custody so he must know how f***ed up the child's mother is. Might I get away with saying "God's will"?

Or she was supposed to be with her daughter only if her enabling, brain-dead parents supervised them and they trust their daughter, so they left them alone together and the poor kid got killed.

Just to get on my political soapbox for a moment, I fail to understand -- if the borders are wide open to all comers, and the U.S. government gives each new arrival an apartment and a cellphone for free, which I keep hearing from rightist voters -- why anyone would still be smuggling people over in semi trucks. Can someone explain that to poor, befuddled me?
