I thought seeing as we had an unofficial bar about ready to take orders in the introductions thread, we could have a geeky drinks one akin to our geeky bakery thread!

This is a place to discuss and share fan-made drinks recipes (particularly if you are wanting to throw a geeky party!) and discuss drinks that come up in books.

I came across this a couple of days ago: http://www.buzzfeed.com/rachelysander...
which looks pretty cool, apparently when I go to see some friends this weekend they might try making some! (excuse the long link, will tidy later as I'm on my phone)

what do you think? :)

Sam (aramsamsam) | 364 comments Nice idea (the link does not seem to work properly).

When it comes to drinks, it is a truth universally acknowledged that there is nothing better than an pan-galactic gargle blaster.

Shorter Link as follows -

. Not sure how happy I'd be drinking Unicorns blood

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments This thread is great - I've got to get out of the pirate's style drinking slump I'm in. Bottle of Rum. Drink.

message 6: by Sam (new)

Sam (aramsamsam) | 364 comments Rum is evil, Leigh... ^^
I'm gonna go with a good whiskey on the rocks. Or Tequila. This for the "easy" drinks. When I'm going out, I really like cocktails (oh, those colourful drinks!). Mojito is a super summer drink. I don't like creamy cocktails though. Or anything with pineapple. Yeah, I'm picky about my drinks ;)

Ahh sorry, I'll have a look when I can - thanks Paul!

I don't know the name of it, but the only cocktail I've really liked had blackberry liqueur, crushed blackberries and champagne :)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments @Freya - That sounds amazing, although Iselin made me think of pineapples and now I want to hang out on beach with a piña colada....

Sorry, Leigh...
Coming back to rum, I now remember that I once had a real Brazilian rum a freind had brought with him from vacation, and that was fantastic!

message 10: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments Just because rum is evil, doesn't mean it's all bad ;)

I'm from a very small town and am Ukrainian so we drink lots of home brewed vodka. Other than that I'm an amber Beer fan :)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments My Austrian sister-in-law's family makes their own nut flavored schnapps on the farm in Upper Austria. Very smooth. Mmmmm.

message 16: by Suncani (new)

Suncani | 29 comments @freya I think that cocktail is called Kir Royal although don't quote me on that.

Mojito or anything with Baileys is always a good call.

It makes me happy that there are so many recipes for a pan-galactic gargle blaster http://tinyurl.com/tajnj

Abrea (elorendil) | 44 comments I discovered the joys of Jamaican Rum Cream while I was on a business trip to Jamaica in December. That stuff is quite good either in a mixed drink or just on the rocks. Haven't found any here, yet.

Oh my god, I LOVED Rum Cream when i went to Jamaica! I haven't been able to get hold of it anywhere either, they really should start exporting, they'd make a fortune!

Abrea (elorendil) | 44 comments I get to go back in August, I may have to bring a bottle (or three) home with me. ;)

After hearing extensively about it on Justified (one of the best tv shows going IMHO), I finally made the personal acquaintance of Apple Pie Moonshine.

Dear GOD that stuff is good, but really, really strong. It's my drink for staying in and either playing computer games or writing when I know I'm going to back over it soon.

And yes, rum is pretty good, not tried "Rum Cream."

What's in this Apple Pie Moonshine? It sounds good.

I have no idea what's in it. I just buy a jar. It IS really good.

message 26: by Abrea (new)

Abrea (elorendil) | 44 comments I got introduced to that stuff on a moonlight carriage ride, Wayland. It was homemade, too. Definitely some very delicious (and dangerous) stuff.

Last night I learned that a 2 euro bottle of wine... is definitely a 2 euro bottle of wine. Ugh.

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments @Rinn - I'm taking it you learned the hard way. ;)

Well I took one sip and stopped... had I drank more/was I planning on drinking more then maybe I would've continued and learnt the very hard way, but had to have my wits about me for today to finish a stupid essay!

Ahh thanks Emma, that may indeed be it - I'll look it up :)

Oooh! Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, that sounds cool - have you tried any of them yet?

I remember when I was 13 or so trying to make Pernese klah. It was described as a coffee substitute made from a native bark that was sort of coffee-like, sort of chocolate-like and a little spiced. I suppose this translates as a mocha chai maybe?! But I think my experiment all those years ago was to mix hot chocolate powder, instant coffee, cinnamon and nutmeg together in a mug and add hot water...

...It could perhaps do with some recipe tweaking! :D

Honey rum and strawberry tequila are favorites of mine I have to say. Liking the look of the Unicorn blood cocktail I confess. Might have to give that one a go. Think I will stay well clear of Hair of the three headed dog.
Going to keep an eye out for Rum cream, sounds right up my street.

I tried the love potion one at my friend's and while I'm not a massive cocktail fan, it was pretty good :)
