"Coffee tastes a bit weird to me." she shrugged
"Make sense." Shadow said, smirking a bit
"Yum." Shadow said
Soon a woman brought out their drinks and food
Soon a woman brought out their drinks and food
Shadow grabbed her cocoa and took a drink
Kaylee yawned, walking into the cafe. It was still early and Kaylee was ready for coffee and breakfast
"One iced coffee and a bagel, please" Michelle told the barista. Normally, she would've gone to the cafe with her siblings or cousins, but they were going to meet up at the mall after school, so she decided to go get breakfast by herself this time. A good start to her day. She shuffled her feet, moving so she wouldn't waste anyone else's time in line. She watched as the barista nodded, patiently waiting for her order to arrive.
Kaylee looked in front of her, waiting her turn in the line. She was second and looked up at the menu, debating on what she wanted. She was torn between a croissant or a sausage sandwich.
Michelle shifted her gaze across the cafe, noticing that there were quite a few students sitting at tables and chatting with each other. It shouldn't have been a surprise to her, though. The cafe was a popular spot among the students at the academy, whether it was to study or just hang out and chat with friends. "Order for Michelle." The barista called her name, and Michelle lifted her head, smiling at the barista. "Thank you" she said. She took her coffee and bagel and sat at a nearby table, taking her seat and took a sip of her coffee.
Kaylee ordered a sausage sandwich and a cup of coffee, waiting patiently for her order to be done. While waiting, her eyes idly roved across the faces and seats, noticing that every one was filled up. She sighed inwardly, she'd be sitting with someone she didn't know or she'd be standing.
Michelle watched as the tables quickly began to be filled up by the other students. Unsurprisingly, it seemed like everyone was here to get breakfast this morning. She looked at her bagel that came with cream cheese. She spread the cream cheese on the bagel, being careful with it. Once she finished spreading the cream cheese, Michelle took a bite of her bagel, enjoying the taste.
Kaylee grabbed her order, going to the only table that was open. "Is it alright if I sit here?" she asked, her voice soft. She seemed nervous and unsure of herself as she waited for Michelle's answer
Michelle lifted her head when she heard the voice, glancing at Kaylee. She didn't recognize her, but maybe she had a class or two with her without realizing it. She smiled as Kaylee spoke. "Of course! I don't mind at all" she replied happily. She was glad that she wouldn't be sitting by herself. She preferred socializing with others anyway. It got boring if she was alone in silence for too long. She moved her stuff, allowing more room for Kaylee to sit and place her food on the table.
"Thank you," she said, offering a shy smile. She took a sip of her beverage, occasionally glancing over. Kaylee was anxious and nervous, that much was obvious, but Michelle could almost sense a fragile part of Kaylee that she usually kept deep down
"It's not a bother" Michelle said with another smile. She took another sip of her coffee before speaking again. "So, what's your name?" She glanced at Kaylee as she spoke. She could tell that she was nervous, but she didn't press her. She didn't want to make Kaylee more nervous than she already seemed to be. And she couldn't exactly blame her. Crowded places like the cafe probably wasn't the best for an introverted. Although her cousin and siblings were shy and came here often and they were fine with it.
"Kaylee," she said, "yours?" She studied Michelle, trying to be friendly. She wasn't good at this.
"I'm Michelle" she replied. "It's nice to meet you, Kaylee." She tried to be pleasant, making sure that she was calm and polite as she spoke. She wondered how her brother and sister would've interacted with Kaylee if they were here instead of her. I think that they could get along well with her. She kind of reminds of them, in a way. Both quiet and shy like her. She smiled at the thought.
"I assume you're here for breakfast?" she asked softly. She was tapping her knee with a couple of her fingers out of nervousness
Michelle nodded her head. "Yeah, I am" she said. She paused for a moment. "And I'm guessing you're here for breakfast too, then?" Most people were, so it was no surprise there. She took another bite of her bagel before she spoke again, thinking of a question to continue the conversation instead of sitting in silence. "What's your first class of the day?"
She paused for a second, thinking. "I think it's either science or english." she flushed from embarrassment, "I might've forgotten."
Michelle chuckled as Kaylee spoke. "Don't worry, it happens, I forget sometimes too. So much going on that it slips your mind" she said. "German is my first class of the day. I really enjoy it. It's a fun class." Her German wasn't great, but she loved teaching her siblings and cousins words and phrases that she learned in class that day. It basically became a daily routine at this point. "Do you enjoy the classes at the academy? Do you have a favorite one?"
"I don't have a favorite one, not yet at least." Kaylee said softly. She sank into a slight silence, eating her sandwich
"That's okay. You don't have one. I was just wondering" Michelle said. She was silent for a moment, thinking of other questions to ask. "So, how long have you been at the academy for? I don't think I've seen you around that much. At least, not that I'm aware of." Was she being too nosy? She wasn't sure, but she hoped that she wouldn't ask questions that were too personal, which was why she was sticking with basic ones.
"Not long, only a month or two." she said, a slight smile on her face. Michelle could tell that Kaylee was slowly warming up to her. It wasn't much, but it was something
Michelle smiled. "That's cool! It's always nice to have newer students around" she said. She enjoyed meeting new students, eager to show them around when she can. She and some of the older students were sometimes tasked with showing the new students around so they could see what the school was like. "Have you adjusted to the school well? Have you been able to get around okay without help?"
"After the first week, I figured it out" She chuckled a bit, smiling at the memory. "Who knew there were that many stories in this damn academy."
Michelle chuckled. "Yeah, the academy is pretty big. Almost too big, I think" she said. "It took me a bit too before I got the hang of it." She thought of the memories of her first day. Going to the principal's office to get her schedule and dorm, almost being late to her first class because she got lost. It was stressful, sure. But she had enjoyed her experience at the academy so far and wouldn't trade it away.
"The principal doesn't seem too bad." she said, almost as an afterthought.
Michelle nodded her head. "Yeah, the principal is pretty nice. Strict, but nice" she agreed. "As long as you don't get into any sort of trouble, you'll be fine." It was rare, she noticed, for students to be sent to the principal's office for the most part. The only times she went to the principal's office was on her first day and to help some of the new students by giving them a tour of the academy. "If you don't mind me asking, what mythical creature are you?"
"I can show you instead? Just let me finish my breakfast, and then we can go to a nice open area. I prefer a lot of room." Her eyes sparkled with a bit of mischief.
Michelle smiled, intrigued as Kaylee spoke. "Show me? Sure, that would be good" she said. She wondered what Kaylee was up to as she saw a hint of mischief in her eyes. She didn't know what to expect, but she was definitely eager to know about it. She took another bite of her bagel, savoring each the bite. She finished chewing and swallowing before she spoke. "The food here is good, huh?"
"It is," Kaylee agreed. "Where will you take me to show you? I don't know the grounds very well."
Michelle paused, thinking for a moment. "There are a couple of good options. But I think that the park would be a good choice. It's nearby the school" she said. "I usually like to go there to relax and read or even study sometimes. It's a perfect spot if you're looking for a quiet place to get away from the academy. I can show you the way if you want."
"Sure, we can leave now if you'd like?" she had just finished her sandwich
"That would be great!" Michelle said. "And since you're willing to show me what mythical creature you are, I'll do the same when we get there. It's only fair." She took the last few bites of bagel before throwing away the plate, along with her now empty cup of coffee. She quickly came back to the table and smiled. "Alright, let's go, then!
