Bohjalian dazzles us with an ability to create both likable and despicable characters. He keeps us in suspense until the last page; as an author he surfaces our emotions of fear, revulsion, and empathy.
I can objectively praise his skill and his accomplishment, while on the other hand, I must admit, I find the content horrifying. But then, I am not a reader who enjoys a tale of violence or of retribution.
