Ashleigh Motbey (ashybear02) | 1686 comments I gave it 4 stars too!

This is my first whodunit and even though I love stories like this I've never really read it before. I have promptly added more Agatha Christie and will be looking at more cosy mysteries after this.

Nyssa 3 Stars

It was an interesting story, but not quite what I was expecting. I didn't connect w/ the TV show either so, unfortunately, I don't think this particular series is for me.

I like Miss Marple (TV) though and plan to try the novels as well.

Valerie Reyes | 1143 comments A quick, enjoyable read but nowhere near the quality of some of her more famous novels. There were plenty of twists and turns but for me the plot did not really hang together in the logical way suggested by Poirot in his explanation. Fun but not fantastic 3 stars.

Cassia | 11 comments I read this book twice, the first time (view spoiler) Like all of Agatha's books, the line of inquiry is often curious and interesting. This is one of the reasons I feel motivated by her stories. It is the book that Poirot, Japp and Hastings introduces, but after reading the other books with Poirot I realize that it has much more to show about his methods of investigation.

Jennie | 6 comments I enjoyed dipping into Christie again as it has been a very long time since I read any. I gave this three stars in the end. I had to check where it came in her writings and hadn’t actually registered it was her first novel, not just the first Poirot. I think that probably explains my feelings about it. I enjoyed it well enough but I thought it lacked a bit of ‘polish’. As others have said elsewhere, I found keeping the people straight in my head difficult to begin with, but it soon found itself on a surer footing. Enjoyable overall, and a nice weekend read, but I didn’t warm to this as I have the Miss Marple books I have read previously.

Ken | 24 comments I gave it 4 stars. I enjoy Priot’s character better I the books than the TV series. All the characters were great in this story, but I must admit I was correct on my hunch on who did it. Thanks for the read suggestion. A 300 page book is the max that I can finish in a month; so I was glad I could hop on this group read. Thanks for the suggestion
