Team Wok on the Wilde Side
I don’t think we need to do anything that will create extra work for anybody, especially for one person in particular. And I am going with the flow because even though we are competitive we also want to have fun and not make it a lot of work for anybody. I think, if I remember correctly, we can put all of our books on the spreadsheet but if we want to remove any at the end of the month or whenever that particular round is ending we can; however, sometimes we need those shorter books to complete something like fish and chips. But I’m good with whatever everyone else wants. We could just started off as is and see if we feel the need to create anything different.
Tammie wrote: "What if we make a template and use it to post here in this thread if we don’t put a book on the SS. We could always add those later as needed. Oh, no I didn't mean a special thread. Just that the official sheet is viewable to everyone and a planning one wouldn't be - just asking if there was any advantage to our books/ingredients/foods being unknown.

I haven't read The Paris Apartment yet so I'll be reading that one for sure. I have read Four Winds so I can't help there. Thanks for making the overflow section. I'll try to put smaller books there also. I can't remember if there was an advantage to keep things hidden or not in this one. I guess we can see how it flows round 1 and change if we need to for the next round?
I signed us up as a team and I was sent the template but I don't know if I am the one to grant access or how I would do that.
Vicki wrote: "I signed us up as a team and I was sent the template but I don't know if I am the one to grant access or how I would do that."Upper right corner of the SS click 'share'
Change to whoever has the link can 'edit'...right now it probably says 'viewer'
Are you part of a captain's group?...sometimes there are messages for teams that come through the captains. I usually just monitored the messages there.
Tammie, I am definitely not part of a captains' group. I'm probably the most inept person with SS in this group! I did what you said, so can you access it now?
BTW I am trying to add a meal etc. but I'm not sure about some things so if I mess up someone please let me know. I figured I would add what I think I know how so that those who've not played it before can see how it works but I obviously don't want to confuse anyone!
Vicki wrote: "Tammie, I am definitely not part of a captains' group. I'm probably the most inept person with SS in this group! I did what you said, so can you access it now?"No...still 'view only'
Hopefully someone will respond to my request soon...plenty of time.
I've not done a challenge with this group where we didn't have a captain. Kinda strange.
I'm sorry, Tammie. I only know that because I signed us up as a group that the MOD sent me the template. But if there's something I need to do for you all to access it I hope to find out soon because I will be on a mini-vacay tomorrow through Monday. We're going to Oceanside with my daughter and her two daughters. We're trying to beat the heat wave here. It was 102 today and this week it's predicted to be up to 111 but thankfully it's a dry heat and not humid in CA.
Don't worry Vicki!I'll leave a Q to the mod account and ask if I don't hear on the SS soon.
I hope you have a great vac! I just got back from Canada last week and had a great time...going to visit my sister this weekend...she's got a birthday on the 3rd :) that needs some celebratin' - BIG 60

I think that either the mod has to add someone from an email address or one of us already there can, but we have to be on the google account that we have access. I'm on my work computer at the moment, but I will see if I have the option on my personal one. Give me just a few.
Only our team would have read/write access (and the Mods), everyone else will have view only.
Because they sent me a template, I think maybe I should be able to give access but I really don’t know. Tammie, we just got back from Canmore. Banff National Park is breathtaking and Jasper too! We loved it there!
Vicki wrote: "BTW I am trying to add a meal etc. but I'm not sure about some things so if I mess up someone please let me know. There are a few drop down boxes to select things like the Meal type.
I can be lead person as long as y'all are okay with my crazy work schedule and I may need help a couple times. I'm going to be at a 4 day concert mid September and then going home to Alabama for 4 days in November but that's all that I have majorly planned. When I get to work, I can figure out how to tell them that I'll take the lead. I'll make sure to take my laptop because we can't access google from work either.
Ok I just heard back from one of the mods…they are treating this as a self-directed challenge so no captains have been made. I apologize for any confusion I created as I was confused. I personally appreciate having a go-to person, but whatever everyone else thinks is fine. like Vicki, I’m not a SS guru…I know enough to be dangerous but beyond that I can really mess things up.I still have no access…Angie or Anna any ideas on how to correct it? I left a message via the SS requesting access just yesterday so perhaps I just need a bit more patience as it hasn’t been 24 hrs yet.
I don't mind being a go to person. I requested access also so hopefully they will come on and just click through the list and grant everyone access. I bet other teams are waiting also. I'm not the best at SS's but I can fill in already made ones pretty well. I know last time we tried to balance out our meals so that we had some of each one because we didn't know what the customers were going to be.
Vicki wrote: "BTW I am trying to add a meal etc. but I'm not sure about some things so if I mess up someone please let me know. I figured I would add what I think I know how so that those who've not played it be..."You’ve entered your book correctly in the books tab
In the meals tab, the way our team did it last time was instead of entering the book, we created full meals here once we finished reading our book.
You’ve started a fish n chips…I suggest you finish that meal out even if you don’t have the book for it…keep the meal together. Someone else can come along and add their book to that meal.
If you’re still reading, I would cancel out anything on this tab until you’re ready to make a meal.
Remember the SS will tell us how many ingredients per book are left…see column I and J on the books tab
…think of the books tab as the grocery store for making your meals.
…Then you have the kitchen tab for making the meals.
I’ll suggest that whoever finishes the meal
…that person names it at the ‘shopfront tab’ where it’s sold

Im glad to help you Anna…it would be great if you can keep us organized.
Sure, I can do that. Yeah, that's what we did last time. Vicki, if you don't have all the fish n chip ingredients just leave spaces to finish and then kick your book to another meal. That way we can go back in and fill in the blanks. That will come in handy with those pesky words like vinegar because sometimes those words like to hide.
Last time for our team, we waiting for a week or two for everyone to get some books read and entered on the Books tab before we started making meals. That way we had several things to play with. Also, for the SS, I can help however needed. I'm on them all day everyday for work. Lol!

Happy Friday, everyone!Looks like we are the only team tracking all our words found on the official spreadsheet. If there are a lot of items, then the page will be huge and not at all pretty. Since the vote was to not use a planning/working spreadsheet, I'm wondering if we should make a copy of the Books sheet to use for the tracking (in the official file)?
Also, I'm still a little concerned about everyone knowing what and how many things we are making all during the challenge. Sort of gives everyone an advantage over us.
Am I overthinking it - I admit I'm a bit OCD.... Lol!
Eeek! I feel like the weakest link! I'm reading like crazy and just trying to keep track of words but I'm still really vague on how we are running this.I'd love a plan to have a goal over what meals we want to make but I'm also okay if we want to take this challenge easy.
Be sure to boss me around! lol
Not OCD at all! I may have been going back to search to see how we did it before and pulled up the old spreadsheet. It looks like the books read tab before got locked for each round so I can see where the previous rounds were but only see round 3 books. Should we make a private group? Maybe not a spreadsheet but just a group that we could make a thread for books read and the ingredients and then we could transfer them over to the spreadsheet in a couple weeks. If it's a copy and paste, I should be able to handle that on a weekend. I know that we have some pretty competitive teams this time because I already did some snooping of the team rosters and a bunch of us are playing Hogwarts on various teams so I have a feeling this version could get pretty competitive. I like goals!
I made a private group that we can use if we want to and I can make everyone moderators in the morning so that we can all make threads and do all the things.

LOL You could never be the weakest link! ;)
Our drive ended up 10 hours due to heavy traffic in Los Angeles and beyond, but it's so beautiful here in Oceanside. I got to see my granddaughter Madilyn (6 months pregnant) last night and she and her boyfriend Jason surprised us and told us they just got married on Sept 1, so we have a new grandson-in-law.I obviously didn't see all these messages yesterday so I finished posting one meal for a sandwich so others can see it. I can change anything but I wanted to show a completed meal. I'm going to see if I have an invite for a SECRET group...my favorite! lol
Welcome back Vicki…glad it was a wonderful trip!I’ve got one to enter that has some vinegar too. Next 2-3 days will be very little reading for me due to work and church stuff…back at it in a few days.
Thanks Tammie. I think we all have our planned as well as unexpected interruptions with our reading so it’s always good to be on a supportive and understanding team! :) Good luck to you!
Whoever has been adding our menu descriptions...excellent job! :) And thank you for doing that!Question: I'm reading Vinegar Girl and it has "vinegar" 3 times since I can include the title. It has a ton of other words but it's only 237 pages long. Should I go ahead and put all of the words or just vinegar 3x and a few other words? I have a very long list. lol And if I do add the book on the working SS, do I add it
I has all except lemon but I was wondering if I should not use it for a meal but use only the 3 vinegars to help complete fish & chips meals. But with how we all read maybe we will have plenty. Vinegar just gives us bonus points.
Yeah, we could use the vinegars to complete 3 meals and then maybe slip in another word to complete another meal depending on what we need ingredients for.
Dang it, my book above got only 4 words but it had so many good descriptive ones. Then as I was putting them on the SS from my NOTES on my phone, I was probably 3/4 finished and inadvertently deleted the list except the last 4. UGH!!!! Good thing I already had so many listed but it still makes me feel like I wasted my time. lolFYI team, I used only 2 ingredients for meal #10 so that I can save my other 2 "vinegar" words for bonus points. Please let me know if I should do anything different because I can complete the meal and skip saving vinegar.
