Ducky | 2 comments It is about humans living in a far distant planet. The humans are for the most part left to their own free will but are patricianly mind controlled by a sentient satellite in the sky. Spoilers ahead - I read this book about 15 years ago. I'm going to guess the book was written in the 80's?

The satellite keeps people from inventing weapons of mass destruction but lets people wage war with simple weapons. In the first book of 3, the plot revolves around a prince and his two sisters. They all have unique gifts. The one remember the most is one of the sisters can literally see connections between people and their social dynamic. The plot goes on to show the conflict between two hierarchy powers with the main family coming out on top. Side note I remember, the people of this planet flog themselves as a form of worship though it was never a thing the satellite demanded or programed into the people.

In the 2nd book it's about the prince and family going on a journey to get to the satellite, writing down the journey, which eventually becomes like a bible.

In the 3rd book, the family makes contact with the satellite and travels back to earth to find it's ruled by Mole people? and pterodactyl people fighting with each other. As well focuses on their conflict regarding the bible that was written by the family in the second book.
