Has anyone else read this?
Did you feel that it was almost a book of two halves? I wonder if it would have been a better read if it had been written as an initial book and a sequel ... I just found the second half had a very different feel, but it also felt rather rushed & less substantial
I think the characters could have been better explored in a separate book!

I just finished this book and don't understand why it is so highly rated. The switching between characters and jumping forward in time so quickly made the story less impactful. Some of the events that should have been shocking and sad barely got a reaction from me.
While I appreciated learning about the history of the Korean people living in Japan and how they were mistreated, the story itself was just okay. I think Lucy was right in that this could have been broken into two books, especially given its length.
The requirement for task 20.10: You must participate in the book's discussion thread below with at least one post about the contents of the book or your reaction to the book after you have read the book.
