Judy (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejudyg) | 362 comments I'm late in catching up, but great discussion here and great to see the illustrations, thank you, Bridget. Very interesting to see all the similarities with A Christmas Carol.

I wondered if there were magic lantern slides of the story, and found a set online from 1875 - interesting to see how special effects were used, with two slides at once, to create Gabriel's visions and make them dissolve.

Oh how lovely! I can imagine the magic lantern show of these, with the light shining through like magic :) We used to have a magic lantern projector at home when I was tiny, but it was old technology even then, and quickly replaced by a slide projector for 35mm films. I used to use a filmstrip projector sometimes when I was teaching. I would love to have seen a show of The Story of the Goblins Who Stole a Sexton though. Thanks Judy :)

Bridget | 1005 comments I would have loved to see that too. Thank you Judy for your post!

Bridget--I enjoyed reading this with you and wanted to say thank you for choosing it.
