Any recommendations on similar books?

Hey there!
I love King's writing, and Under the Dome has all the ingredients for what my mood is looking for right now: a small American town, ordinary people, a grand phenomenon nobody can make sense of, mystery, suspense, etc - however, I'm not with patience to deal with what critics say about one-dimensional, stereotyped characters. I mean, I didn't read the book - and I will - but I don't want to feel cringe about the characters and their actions.
That said, has anyone got any suggestions for a temporary replacement for Under the Dome?
