Rivara | 42 comments hello, is there anyone who can edit ISBNs now?

this book has an incorrect isbn10:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

9789054288527 is correct,
9054288523 is another book

I just need the shorter one removed, thanks!

Seriously?? I have seen at least 5 books today with incorrect ISBNs, this is a really common problem.

Thanks....

Renske | 12220 comments The ISBN10 and ISBN13 belong together. This seems to be a rather odd reuse of an ISBN. As the ISBN10 starts with 90, this is a Dutch language area ISBN, which matches with the result on worldcat. So it is a bit strange a Korean edition has the same ISBN.

Rivara | 42 comments Are you sure it's a reuse? Bc the only books I find online with the dutch isbn10 are the correct book, seems like someone just made a mistake. The dutch book was published before isbn13 was used I think.

If you use any of the ISBN converters, you will see that 9054288523 is the ISBN10 that corresponds to the ISBN13 9789054288527. This is true regardless of whether that ISBN10 is is listed on the book or in databases; the two ISBNs are a correct pair.

(Example of an ISBN converter: https://www.loc.gov/publish/pcn/isbnc...)

Rivara | 42 comments Hmm this is way more annoying than I originally assumed.

At any rate, it seems like a no-brainer for me that the dutch book should have the isbn10 and not the isbn13 bc that was never assigned to it. I doubt anyone looks for new publications by isbn10.

That's not how it works here. We keep paired ISBN10/ISBN13s together.

The more recently published book keeps both parts of the ISBN pair. A link can be added pointing to the to the other book, and a note can be added to it noting what its ISBN should be.
